Rebecca&Seyi2019

Finally got around to doing a thread!

How we met:

It's by no means a romantic story! It was during our time at university and I was in Gatecrasher ready to go home! 😂 you know when you've had a great night the club is closing soon and your feet hurt! I just wanted my bed and McDonald's! But my bestie likes to drag out the night 😂 I was standing against the wall for support because my poor little feet and Seyi came and asked me to dance...I should have known then that this one was different he actually asked me to dance! Guys in a club don't usually do that! I politely said no thank you and he told me to enjoy the rest of my night. When my friend was finally ready to leave he approached me again and asked me for my number, I gave it to him and after some of the best dates I've ever been on and becoming such great friends we were official bf/gf a year after meeting and 7 years later here we are planning our wedding!

The proposal:

For my 25th we went to Santorini, Seyi had planned an amazing day out on a boat tour where we climbed up a volcano, swam in hot springs, watched the sunset and enjoyed traditional greek dancing and food! We had discussed marriage before and knew a proposal was on the cards. I had thought he was going to do it on the boat tour. But as the tour finished I thought its not going to happen today! We returned back to our hotel and was ready for a hot shower and relax! Before entering our room he handed me a Harry Potter book and said not to open it yet and that I didn't have this copy... At first I was like I have every copy does he even know me! Then I thought omg what if its signed or something! (I am a massive Harry Potter fan don't judge me 😂)Anyway  he then proceeed to open the door and on the floor of our room was 'Will you marry me?' Spelt out with candles and rose petals! He told me to open the book which was hollowed out on the chapter 'The unbreakable vow ' and my ring was attached to the bookmarker! It was so beautiful and after lots of yes's and kisses rang all our friends and family! Santorini provided the best scenery for pictures!

The ring!

I had already expressed that I loved the halo style ring and Seyi had my ring made and designed it himself which is such a beautiful touch! It has pink diamonds on the outside and diamonds along the shoulder and centre diamond! It sits quite high which i love and it's also inscribed with r🖤s on the inside! The boy did good!

The venue

Having a venue that could fit a lot of people wasn't a massive concern for us my family is quite small and although Seyi has a massive family we didn't want the numbers to be too high. We're still in the invitation process 😣 but hoping to keep the figure around 170-190 at most! We went to a few different locations none that really stuck out until we visited Crockwell Farm in Daventry. Although I  was born and raised in London I haven't lived there since I was about 13 so we didn't feel the need to have the wedding there. My family are mostly in the Northampton area now and Seyi's family mostly live in Nigeria. We both now live in Nottingham where we met yay haha so locaion wise Crockwell Farm was perfect. What I liked most about it was exclusive use for the whole weekend for the same price others charged for the day. So we arrive Friday, wedding Saturday and leave Sunday! There is ample parking and accomadation on site for family and wedding party as well as hotels around! They've just finished renovating the honeymoon suite and I can not wait! Rose gold bathtub 😍 they provide breakfast on the morning of the wedding and the Sunday before we leave! We're really hoping to have the wedding outside it's next year 6th April so fingers crossed English weather pulls through for us!

There is only one catering company they use which was of slight concern as we ideally would have wanted to cater to our Nigerian/Jamaican roots but the catering comes highly recommended and reviews for the food are amazing so should be fine!

Planning:

So Pintrest is both my best friend and enemy! I love it but I'm not sure money will stretch for all the things it tells me I need 😂 I want a really botanical feel in terms of flowers and I'm really into the semi naked cakes at the minute and I would like to have a cupcake and sweets table. We've picked photographer, DJ and Videographer. The colour scheme is like a dusty blue and white, I just want a nice clean fresh spring feel! Aiming for a travel theme as we travel a lot and as I'm cabin crew it's what my life revolves around! I'll continue to add as things get more concrete. I've written more than I thought running out of steam! 😂😂

Mine‘s April 20th. Have you got much planned? I feel like I’m in a bit of a weird lull period where I don’t have to do much at the mo.

I've planned videographer, DJ and photographer but nothing else atm just looking into cakes and flowers! I've got my dress as well! I think there is a little lul in planning after main things are out of the way

Awww that's beautiful, congrats. Your engagement ring and proposal story is so sweet! My fiance too is Nigerian, I was born in London though my parents roots' from Jamaica. I'm quite surprised your fiance agreed to a small figure for invites. My Nigerian fiance wants big figures of about 450 - 500!! . Are you guys having their Nigerian traditional wedding? Mine wants one!!

Lol at Pinterest, tell me about it. Well now it's not just Pinterest but also temptation from Instagram. I  had to follow a few afro caribbean related wedding igs and blogs like @munaluchi US and @myafrocaribbeanwedding UK to get some inspirational ideas. Found my wedding planner through my afro caribbean wedding. So they are helping with the planning as i have no idea about multi cultural wedding bash. Counting down, can't wait.

Heyyy ahh thank you so much and congratulations to you both! I'm the same born in London, with Jamaican and Grenada heritage! So yeah mix of cultures....Yeah he's ok with smaller numbers! I've suggested going go Lagos after the wedding to have a big party which will be a lot cheaper too! We'r not having a seperate traditional but I'm going to change into traditional clothing in the evening! When are you guys getting married?!

Instagram and Pinterest are just awful! 😂ahh I don't have a wedding planner but I'm feeling a bit lost now ha under a year to go!
