edible centrepiece

in Receptions
Hi
Just fancied some opinions...
I'm trying to be inventive and come up with some ways of spending less on flowers! For the reception, I am thinking of using 'edible centrepieces'. Apparently herbs are much much cheaper and can look really pretty in vases, so I am thinking of going down this road. I have come across some nice pictures, eg http://www.webstockpro.com/FoodCollection/932938.Bunch-of-herbs-and-lavender-flowers-Photo/ This is basil and lavender.
Have I gone a bit crazy? Do you think this might look nice on the tables or a bit weird?

I think the herb idea is great and will fill your room with a lovely smell. I have seen the fruit ones and I would advise against them (apologies to anyone reading this who's having them) but they look awful by the evening-all soft and sticky, and if its a summer wedding (as it was when I saw them) they attract flies. I love the herb idea though
