Venue in Beds or Bucks

Hey Ladies I'm looking for an elegant venue in Bucks or Beds, Nice Gardens are a must and must be amazing rain or shine. I want the wow factor. We would like to find somewhere where we can get married, have the reception and stay over night. Has anyone any suggestions?

The only thing with Woburn is you wouldn't be able to stay in the same place. There is the Inn at Woburn but it's fairly small (sounds like you're after a bigger venue) though accom & food is very good, the sculpture gallery at the Abbey is amazing I would have loved to get married there!

Offley Place is very nice, though was speaking to someone today who said they'd had trouble contacting them.

Luton Hoo would be amazing, and very expensive!

We also looked at Harpenden House but we weren't happy with some aspects.

There's Flitwick Manor, haven't been to look at it but website looks good.

in my opinion Luton Hoo wouldn't be amazing, I'd be embarrassed to bring my family to Luton!!
  • Luton Hoo, is one of the most amazing venues.. I do get what you mean, with the name 'Luton' Hoo, spec if your from around the area.. but it just takes my breathe away every time I go there!!
  • Hello!I think we will have about 150 guests and money isn't really an issue at the moment. Find the venue and deal with the cost later...........I don't really want to be paying it off for the next 100 years though! Would appreciate your thoughts.
  • Wow Thank you so much! This is the perfect starting point........Thank you so much x
  • Thanks so much I will take a look! x

    Missenden Abbey is beautiful.

    Highelms manor is also nice

Or my personal fav Chenies Manor my friends got married here last year

  • Whittlebury Hall (nr Towecter) is gorgeous.

The Bedford Swan hotel has everything except the gardens, but is on the embankment by the river with stunning views and photo ops there.

Wymondham Barn (although that might be Herts).

Wouldn't bother with Swiss Gardens - it's stunning but it'll be waaaay too tiny for you. H2B's cousin married there in the summer and we struggled to fit 20 people into the ceremony room, plus there's no accommodation.

We're actually not that spoilt around here, there's not a huge amount of choice at a decent price!

Bedford Swan would be a horrible wedding venue in my opinion, it's right at the bottom of the dirty high street especially if it's a saturday there's always binge drinkers and police loitering near the statue right outside, the river by the bridge is filthy where scum builds up and rubbish is thrown in.

I live in Bedford, I wouldn't dream of getting married in town image
  • Our reception is at the Swan, it's gorgeous and I'm very happy with it. That being said, most of our pictures will be at the Church as it's the inside that blew us away, but we'll certainly have a few by the river (which I've never found to be dirty as you wander down).

Amy, there's constructive feedback and opinions, and then there's plain rude - please don't forget this is a site with lots of different brides, budgets and requirements.

  • Some lovely suggestions here ladies! We're getting married at the Bellhouse Hotel in Beaconsfield. The A40 thunders past but that in turn means all our guests have good access to the venue, including those flying into Heathrow, which is local. We're using a local photographer called thebridalphotographer and a violinist who has a website at and is versatile enough to play throughout the day. Now just got to find a good local florist!

Pendley manor is in tring, but its not 10 minutes from leighton buzzard.

theres also offley place, near hitchin

theres shuttleworth park, near old warden,

    the bell hotel in winslow

    Kingfisher country club

    whittlebury hall

    Shelswell Park

just a couple i found for you, hope it helps, xxx
  • How about Hampden House doesn't have any on site accommodation though.

or Notley Abbey which does have some accommodation but probably not enough for all the guests.

A bit of venue candy if nothing else!
  • I got married at the Dairy at Waddesdon last August and can say with no bias it was stunning. The staff are amazing as are the grounds and the food. It has the wow factor without being pretentious and I can guarantee your guests will be have the best time of their lives. We have been told it was the best wedding they had ever been too - including their own! Drawback is the accomodation, you have to walk five mins up the road to the hotel, and the venue itself ain't cheap. Have a look at my pics if you like at, password natalie&mark to get an idea of the layout.

Amyyearley the way you speak to people on here is pretty disgusting, sort yourself out or ship out.

Luton isn't even that bad a place, have been living here for nearly 3 years, not out of choice admittedly!! Moved here for work. Though embarrassed to live here today with the EDL march, absolutely disgusting.

However Luton Hoo is as close to Harpenden as Luton. It's about a minute away from the M1 J10 so easy road access, 5 minutes from either Harpenden or Luton parkway (the one for the airport) train station, and 5 minutes from the airport.

    Luton Hoo photos:

  • Thank you Ladies we have viewings this weekend and next at numerous venues, I will keep you updated! Any other thoughts welcome! X
  • I can add that Luton Hoo is fab as we got married here last year.

Definitely agree that Amyyearley is out of order whatever your thoughts remember that you are being nasty about other peoples choices, there is a more tactful way of saying what you are without upsetting other people.

Good luck with your search if you do need anymore info or pics at Luton Hoo then please PM me would be happy to share.

    Jo x
  • my friends getting married at the swan later this year when I went to look at it with her looked great, and does have some great photo ops with the embankment

I also live in Bedford but i'm marrying in Derbyshire so havent looked for local venues although i have heard woodlands in clapham is nice
  • I live near whittlebury and eventhough the actual interiors are beautiful, the grounds are not so nice. Big carparks and lots of not so charming gravel and roadways. They do give fantastic service and I know lots of people who have got married there and had an amazing day. Just not sure it's what you are after in terms of grandness.
  • Hi there hope this helps

If you want to post a review feel free once you have looked around a venue. It will help others in the future.

    Happy hunting
  • What about Poundon House, the gardens are beautiful and it definately has the wow factor whilst remaining personal, its right on the Bucks border.
  • Or there is Towcester race course, there is no accomodation there, but plenty nearby (walking distance).
