Nervous about trying to find a dress

Im a plus size bride and have a ‘vision’/ idea of what I want however I’ve seen very little in U.K. stores that match this - as if that werent tough enough I’m very much on a budget and can not spent a lot...

This is all giving me massive anxiety about finding a dress. So much so I can’t bring myself to book almost anything (photographer, caterer etc) I know it’s about us and not the dress but I struggle with my body image and for once would like to feel good and look back at photos and feel good.

Does anyone have any advice or any stores in the south east that may be good to look at?

Thanks x

Try Go Bridal in Tunbridge Wells, and Alta Costura in Maidstone. Isabella Grace in Tunbridge Wells also stock plus size samples but are a bit more expensive. Plus also Wed2B obviously do plus size.

I'm a UK high street size 22 and got my Maggie Sottero dress ex-sample from Go Bridal - should have been over £1850 but I got it for £500. They have plus size dresses there you can try but when I visited they also had a Maggie Sottero plus size trunk show which meant I got to try a few different styles.

I was so terrified of shopping but the corsetry in the dresses was so amazing and really does pull you in. I did try a few Monsoon/Simply Be dresses but they just don't have that corsetry that pulls you in unlike the 'designer' dresses.

  • Perhaps you can post some pics of your ideas and maybe someone can help? 🙂

Thank you I’ll have a look at these and it makes me feel better that there are some lovely dresses at affordable prices. Thank you

  • Lovely ideas! If you couldn’t find sometjing exactly like this   you could always add the lace detail and sleeves if you found a dress that had the basic shape you were after...then you could have it exactly how you wanted!

Yes I had thought of that but I’m worried about costs all adding up for extras and alterations etc hopefully i‘ll Find something, although given how difficult it’s been to choose a photographer I doubt that’s going to happen 😣 x

  • Wed2b have some that are along the lines of what you have posted above?

Please don’t worry about choosing...the photographer (and the dress!) are important decisions so don’t feel bad about taking your time! Go and try some dresses on and take someone you trust with you. I tried on about 50 dresses before I got mine! You will get there in the end I promise! 🙂
