Newbie from the North East
Hi there!
Just a little hello for my first post! My fianc???? proposed last summer but as we are having quite a long engagement I hadn't really started planning properly until recently.
We're planning to marry in June 2013 and I've got lots of ideas of what I want but nothing booked as yet so i'm hoping you lovely ladies (any gents if there's any here!) will keep me on the right track and help me with decisions along the way!

There's a thread on here called Cleveland Brides - Lots of girls from the North East on there and lots of tips and ideas!
Any ideas what kind of wedding venue you're looking for and whereabouts in the NE?
Im fairly new myself, but well on in the way of planning- getting married May 2011. I actually manage events for a catering company so to be honest Ive been picking up tips and planning for years (poor man never stood a chance!)
I hate to be predicatble but the first thing you need to sort out before anything else is a rough budget amount- just the genral amount you want to spend and where you want to spend it. Then decide on the venue- this can be the tricky part if you have a particular "theme" you want.
Then have fun!

Oh, and ebay really is a god send, especially as you have time to play with.
I'll check out Cleveland Brides in a moment - glad there's a few locals around to pick the brains of! hehe
We've set our budget at £16k and I hope not to have to spend more than that!
As far as venues go, I feel like i've looked at everywhere in the North East and still can't make my mind up!! I'm having a church wedding so it needs to be within about 45 mins max of there (which is a couple of miles out of central newcastle).
I loved Eshott Hall but with venue hire of £6k before food/drink etc I think it's out of my budget (as i'd have to scrimp on the other things and I don't think it's worth it).
My second thought was to have a marquee reception at Seaton Delaval Hall so that I could design everything as I wanted it rather than have the decor of a function room somewhere, but as they have no facilities at all (toilets / kitchen / inside space) the whole thing would need to be in the marquee and that worries me a bit (in case of bad weather and also as i don't really like the idea of portaloo's!
So... the hunt is still on! I'm waiting to visit Meldon Park and Alnwick Gardens over the next couple of weeks and hopefully one of those will become "The One"!
xx
p.s Oh and Aine... I have already discovered the wonderful world of ebay.. i have lots of weddingy things in my 'watching list' and if i'm not careful the whole wedding budget may disappear rather quickly!
im north east too...south tyneside.... getting married in august 2012, ebay has alot to answer for lol i've found lots of tips from here and trawling websites! have lots of fun planning
got lots planned and lots of deposits down, but still got lots to do and lots to save! lol
how about you?
It's so nice to see people from my area. I'm living in cramlington and getting married at the church there then reception is at linen hall.
There are some lovely places to get married in the area. X

I don't know how big your budget is/ how many guests you want to ask, but Jesmond Dean House would make a fab venue for a smallish wedding reception. I'm prob not that good on local venues as I'm not getting married here, but I've been to most of the local dress shops if you want any recommendations!
I live in the North East - widdrington Northumberland. We're getting married at Slaley Hall in August. I'm originally from lancashire too, we lived in Leeds for 8 years (we met at Uni) then moved up here a year last October with H2B's job - he's RAF.
We looked at quite a few venues up here - Matfen Hall and Lumley castle were lovely, I also went to a reception at the Marriot near the metro which was fab. My other half has been to a wedding reception at ALnwick Gardens and said it was great the only slight issue is that it's so big depending on how many guests you have it can look a little empty.
Happy hunting ladies xxx
We have quite a large budget - my parents are making a very generous contribution which has been amazing. We live in London so finding suppliers is mainly done at the weekend's we're here. The Cleveland Bride's thread is good, as is the Wynard Bride's thread, even if you're not getting married there. The best wedding fairs are at Wynard (today actually I think) and the Metro Arena / Hilton one. My friend rates the Jesmond Dene House one too. I think the best thing to do is find a lovely hotel like Jesmond Dene and go to their fair. The suppliers will be much nicer!
I have a photographer in mind but not booked yet. I wouldn't get drawn into decisions. June is a manic month and we aren't the first booking for the venue so I would get that sorted and then have a rest. I think its easy to think "I like that", "I like that" and get everything. I have loads of ideas but none of them blend so I'm trying to de-clutter.
