    Hi ChickStick,

I'm getting married at Peckforton on the 24th August. Not long to go now! We have sent our invites out over the last few weeks so just co-ordinating RSVP's. Next week I am planning to move on to my accessories, bridesmaid accessories, gifts for the wedding party, hen night organising and wedding rings.

    How about you?

Hi LouB2B, I'm getting married 18th Aug - 10 weeks today i think! We sound about the same stage - I've got this week off work so am intending to make some serious progress...

Have you done your food tasting yet? We're trying to sort ours out at mo - but currently unimpressed about Castle contact, left 3 messages yesterday and no-one has bothered to ring us back... Humm, am about to send an unimpressed email!!

I hope all your planning is going well... Are you going to the canapes evening next sun?

    Hello again,

Well I didn't manage to sort any of the stuff I intended to! I am rubbish at making decisions!

Have you sorted your menu tasting yet Chickstick? We still need to arrange ours. What are you thinking of trying?

I am very unimpressed with the castle's contact at the moment too! May have to make an unimpressed call today!

Alula did you find wedding rings? I am really struggling with this. I can't find what I want anywhere.

Are you both going to the canape evening tonight? I'm not, I have my CBM's baby showing later this afternoon :\

Hi Lou! Yes we've now done our menu tasting - had tomato and mozarella starter, chicken main and STP dessert and the red lentil/stilton thing for veggi main. Was all v.nice - we got to meet the chef and asked for a couple of things to be done differently, and he was fine with that. So all good! Quite relieved!

Re the contact thing, they need to sort that out. I got quite annoyed with them as we couldn't plan anything without having to ring numerous times. But once we'd made it clear that we were not impressed they did improve. We also had a bit of a dispute over the vegetarian issue as initially they refused to allow us to taste a meat and a veggi dish - thought this a bit harsh as we are having 90+ guests in day (about 30 vegetarians) and 170 in evening so they're making a packet out of us and so being tight about one taster meal was not impressive. However, once I'd said this (polite-but not impressed) we were allowed to taste the vegetarian option. So I guess you've got to be strong and not just take what they initially say! Good Luck!!

Re wedding rings - do you live anywhere near Manchester? If so, we got ours from a fantastic place - its a manufacturing jewellers so they can make any design you come up with. They also made my engagement ring and it is (in my view obviously!) amazing :\) Defo recommend them if you're nearby... Also you pay about half the price of normal shops - which goes down well with H2B!

The menu tasting sounds good. We are pretty much thinking of having the same 3 courses!

Glad you stuck to your guns about the veggie dish!

I live in Manchester so if you could let me know the name of the jewellers that would be fab!

    Thanks
  • Hi Girls

Got back from the canape evening tonight a while ago, was very impressive, although they didn't put anything on from the old package, it sounds like we have to pay extra to upgrade if we want that.

Seeing Nicola on Wed night for our final detail meeting, I have so much to finalise before then, still sorting our final numbers out, it's shocking how many people you end up chasing rsvp's for! They just don't realise the importance of it all. Well hopefully getting there.

H2B managed to offend his mum tonight as his brother and his girlfriend just assumed they could stay with us on the thursday night before we get married on saturday, like we don't have enough to do with packing for the friday, sat and honeymoon, sorting final details, getting the house ready for guests who are staying over at ours on the friday night, shopping for our bbq we will be organising the day after wedding and just generally wanting to spend some quality time together as we won't see each other on the friday night. arrghhh! I just don't think they realise what's involved.

Hope all your plans are going well, how long have you allocated for the wedding breakfast?

    Hugs

    Hi Em,

Glad last night was good- we couldn't make it H2B was not well, so had to call it off- did many attend?

In answer to your question- I was going to allocate around 2-2.5 hours for the wedding breakfast- depending if speeches are included. I've been to a fair few weddings of my friends- generally the meal part is in the region of 2 hours after all depending on number of guests could push the time up. and anthing up to half an hour for speaches depending on tne individuals. What do you think????

  • Hi Alula

There were about 50 I think there.

Shame you couldn't make it. I had the priveledge of not driving so had to try every champagne and arrival drink!!!

Regarding the breakfast, at the moment we have allowed just over 3 hrs for the meal and an hr and a half for after the ceremony and photos, so maybe we have the balance a little wrong, although don't want people getting bored waiting to sit down to eat. So not sure at mo, just don't fancy being rushed away for photos when we want to chat to guests after the ceremony and chill out and have a drink.

    Hi all,

Been reading all the Peckforton goss for a couple of weeks. I'm getting married there on xmas eve this year (so a few months after yourselves).

I also went to the tasting yesterday and it was yummy! After all the hassle with the castle that we have also experienced it was really nice to have something good happen there to re-establish our faith! Unfortunately i didn't have the priveledge of not driving but shall have the favour returned at the meal tasting image

From the weddings I have been to recently it helps with the speeches if you do a sweepstake for the length of them - always keeps people more interested! We haven't gotten as far as detailed plans but after reading Em's note all i can say is don't feel pressurised by either sets of parents - it is your day afterall!

  • Welcome mrsjm2b

Yay another peckforton bride and how fantastic to be waking up in the castle on christmas day a married woman.

I have only 33 days to go and it's getting pretty frantic now.

Good idea about the sweepstakes for the speeches although I have a feeling ours won't take too long, my dad is petrified and h2b is also very nervous, best man is only one looking forward to the speech, so we might have to clock watch him but other than that I think the others will be pretty quick.

hope your planning is coming along well. I guess you'll be an expert after all our weddings.

Don't get me wrong we have had a really easy ride with both our families really, they have just let us get on with it, which I think has sometimes contributed to the fact they don't actually realise how much time we have put into things and how much last minute stuff there will be to do. But we love both sets and should count our blessings really. There will inevitably be tensions as we get closer to the day.

well I really should be doing something other than sitting here on the internet.

    Hi All,

I'm really struggling with the timings of my day. The ceremony will be at 12, there will be drinks and canapes on the lawn (weather permitting!)from 12.30 (plus jester for entertainment), then receiving line at 2.30, breakfast starts at 3 until 5 or 5.30.

Is two hours too long after the ceremony? Should I be providing more than one welcome drink in this time?

Most of my day guests are staying at the castle so between the breakfast ending and the evening starting at 7, they can check in to rooms but what about the others who are not staying over. What will they do for 2 hours?! Aaargh - so confusing!

Am tempted to start the breakfast a little later but then is that too much time between ceremony and breakfast? Should I be providing some kind of entertainment?

Would really appreciate your thoughts on this, I am so confused.

    Thanks x

PS Welcome MrsJM2B, a xmas wedding - how romantic!

    Hi LouB2B,

I'd be tempted to leave your plans as is. There are 2 bars at the castle so people can socialise and drink after the meal and before the evening do. Maybe as it's a summer wedding see if you can have croquet on the lawn and some other summery games to keep everyone entertained. If i was you i probably wouldn't push the wedding breakfast any later. As for drinks - 1 drink is fine. It all depends on your budget as to how many you can afford!

I love the idea of a jester though! Where did you get him from? I'm tempted to sort out santa for the kids (as a few of them are staying) but not sure whether to or not.

Hi Lou, sorry not been on for a few days - name of jewellers is Slack and Andrews and they're on Dale Street. You'll need to make an appointment to go. Its not a flash looking place as its a workshop, but honestly the stuff they produce is amazing (i'm v.into my jewellery and looked around ages before going with them), so am sure you'll be happy with result. Thing to do is get some ideas/pictures and then they just make to order. We just got our wedding rings done and mine was made in wax first to check I liked it. Now looking forward to getting the real one...

Let me know how you get on!:\)

Also, re wedding times ours are similar to yours - wedding at 12, breakfast at 3 and evening do at 7. May as well get the most out of the day we reckoned!!:\)
  • Hi Everyone

We just got back from our final meeting with Nicola

It was a great meeting, we went through everything.

    Changed our timings slightly.

We are having the castle starting to get people inside at 2.00pm for the wedding breakfast, by the time they do this it's more likely to be 2.30 by the time we actually sit down with everyone.

The breakfast should finish by 5.00 latest.

We officially have the evening do starting at 7.30 but as we have things going on in between the day and evening we are unofficially inviting evening guests (there will only be a maximum of 25 extras coming in the evening) to join us from 6.00pm onwards on the basis we may not personally be there to meet and greet them until 7.30 if we are freshening up.

By the way anyone having given directions and used the red fox pub as a marker, it is still there although up for sale, has not been sold yet, so hopefully in 4 weeks time for us it will still be there but not sure for how long, so if you haven't sent invites as yet, might be worth stating it could be called something else.

Regarding the canape's if you went on sunday but are on the old package you can choose 4 of the new ones. It's slightly more but they are well worth it.

Oh I absolutely love that place I fall in love even more each time I go!!!!

I don't know if this helps any of you.

    I'll be back on soon!

    Hi All,

    Hope you are well.

Karen - the jester was booked through hipswing. Quite appropriate for the castle and we really didn't want our day to be too formal so thought a jester would be quite lighthearted! He also juggles with fire! Santa sounds like a good option too, will definately keep the children amused.

Thanks for jewellers recommendation ChickStick, have told H2B and we are going to go this weekend.

Thanks both for the reassurance on the timing of the day. I'm going to keep it as it is.

    How are all your plans?

Also meant to ask whether you were having a musician for ceremony & drinks reception? If so, what?

We originally hadn't budgeted for this but am now thinking that we really should have someone!

    imageHi LouB2B,

We are haing a string quartet. We've found http://www.soloplayers.co.uk/ through Cheshire County Council website and the demos online seem really good. We've asked them for a demo CD though so we can have a good listen before we go any further.

We want Pachebels Canon for when i walk up the aisle - the only problem being is it make:cryimage me cry! Trying to losten to it most days so that the effect wears off!

Hi Lou, good luck with S&A - let me know how you get on! And remember to take some pics of what you'd like as because they're not a shop they don't have loads to look at...

Re music, we're having a harpist for ceremony and drinks reception. She's called Ceinwen Roberts and is the one the castle recommends (tho we didn't actually know that when we booked her!).

Right, better sign off now - my Hen weekend starts today!!!:\):\):\)

Hey, thanks had AMAZING hen weekend, was brilliant!!! :\)Can't type too much now tho as seriously hungover and keep pressing the wrong keys! imageRe hair - had a bit of a saga there... had hair trial with makeupschool person, which was terrible so then sorted another one with person from my local hairdressers and that was pretty good, so booked her... BUT, whilst at spa on Hen weekend, met hairdresser there who was doing peoples hair for a ball and she was fantastic! So...tomorrow am going to try and book her!!

    hi there

where was the hen weekend? Lookin forward to mine but its a long way off,

We have now booked the string quartet after receiving a demo CD. They sounded brilliant.

Has anyone one else heard that Nicola is leaving Peckforton? Hope it doesn't impct on any of the up and coming weddings! Met Fallon (Nicola's deputy) and she seems really good.

Is ayone ele gettind marries at Peckforton in December?

Are you sure she's leaving? We met her and Fallon at the canapes evening and she said Fallon was taken on as a 2nd wedding person as she had too much work... No mention of leaving??!:\?
  • karendukekarenduke Posts: 21
    Definitely sure!

My H2B emailed her to organised to go in and do the banquet selector thing and her response was to book us in with Fallon because "Unfortunately I am leaving the castle in 2 weeks" [copied from email].

We also were at the tasting and were told exactly the same re Fallon helping Nicola as she had so much on. She doesn't say anything in the email about any replacement so not sure what's happening.
  • AlulaukAlulauk Posts: 68
so whats this fallon like then? This is quite worrying- as I have an appointment with Nicola on 29th July to go through the final things before the wedding, do you think I should contact her and ask?

    What are everyone elses thoughts?

Fallon seemed ok. Maybe a bit young but very enthusiastic and outgoing. They explained to us that on your wedding day there would be 3 duty managers that look after all the arrangments etc, so that isn't going to change.

To be completely honest Nicola hasn't exactly filled us with confidence so I'm working on the presumption that it may actually improve things. Maybe if you just phone up to confirm your appointment they will be able to tell you more.

Sure it'll all be fine. It's probably better to talk to Fallon than to Nicola knowing she's going.

Took your advice, confirmed appointment and its with Fallon, or the "new" lady........ apparently there is another wedding co-ordinator too, who is just starting hopefully things will go from good to even better like you say- if she is enthusatic thats great!!!! I will let you know how I get on image and hopefully all on the day will go smoothly. Thanks for your advice

Hoe odd! Bit cheeky not to tell us about this at the canapes evening!! Do you think she's been sacked? We really haven't been impressed with her at all - had to phone about 4 times each time you needed something doing. Here's hoping Fallon's an improvement... When is Nicola's leaving date?
