Plus Size mother of The Bride Outfits

My mum is plus size and so far we have had no luck on finding a suitable outfit for her - Im sure we will get there I just need to research the internet for more shops boutiques etc - she does not want a high st store eg Evans Simply Be as there is a good chance someone else may be in the same outfit xx

My question is if anyone knows of any websites/boutiques then please post them so I can investigate - i am in essex but more than happy to travel to Scotland if need be to ensure my mum has the right outfit

thanks in advance

my mum ended up buying from a little boutique which were brilliant...but my nan and mil2b have gone with outfits from Jaques Vert, they usually have a section in debenhams of Jaques Vert but it is a designer.

It's called No 25, and it's in Bourne End near Maidenhead.

If your mum can find a dress shop that stocks Ann Balon outfits - 2 web links below - pictures don't do these outfits any justice. They are really flattering on a larger size. The textured material sits beautifully and they are incredibly comfortable too!
  • Ooh Ann Balon is lush!

I am also a plus size MoB (size 28!!) and am having the same difficulty. I have had a quote from a dressmaker to make an outfit based on Ann Balon styles but haven't seen a pattern or fabrics yet.

I've heard very good reports about this shop.

My mum is looking for a trouser suit that's quite floaty, does anyone know of anywhere that has anything suitable? She's quite short (under 5ft), so doesn't want a long jacket.

We found a lovely grey suit in JV but it was too long for her, and would need 3 or 4 inches taken off.

As we're getting married in July outside she wants something quite lightweight.

We've found that most of the websites only have dresses in. Any suggestions would be great .

Can anyone recommend places in the Manchester/Cheshire area? Found nothing for my mum on the high street, think we need to go to an occasionwear shop really.

My Mum bought hers on Saturday from a boutique in Cheltenham called Tia Tia. The service in second to none, and now she has a fantstic Frank Usher outfit that makes her feel stunning - something she was really worried about.

    I'd recommend it to anyone

What an excellent thread!! I'm having the same worries with finding something for my mum - she's only just 5ft and is a size 30... It's a real struggle to find anything...

I've just had a quick look on the website that a couple of people have mentioned on here - the stuff looks really nice - I can't wait to go and show my mum now. Really think that we might get something off here...

EllieMcM - there's a shop in Chorlton cum Hardy called Lady Bountiful. Their website isn't the best & we've not actually had chance to go and have a look there yet but I've heard that it's supposed to be ok.

    Here's a link:

My mum is plus size and tall and found a lovely dress in s shop called cesca (I think they have online too)

It might not suit everyone, but she got a lovely white lace dress that was ankle length - she looked lovely in it and the people in the shop were so lovely.

they have about 300 styles. and they have size up to US28.

  • EllieMcM - did you find any in Manchester/Chester area?! I to have the same problem, based by Warrington so easy reach to Liverpool, Manchester and mum is coming from Ireland for a fewdays to come find her ideal outfit as she's not found anything in Ireland and my research isn't going too well for here either! image

  • Hi Folks!!

I have a Mother of the Bride shop in Worcestershire called Wedding Pearls. We currently have a few outfits up to a size 26 but I have loads more on order due in middle of April going up to a size UK30.

There is such a high demand for plus size special outfits yet all the designers shy away from this as it is not the standard market !! In addition the designers are very small made so you will need at least one size larger than your normal dress size.

If you want more details please email me at [email protected]

  • have you tried coast (up to size 18)? john lewis have good ranges

or some bridal shops do MOB outfits, or sometimes there are bridesmaid outfits that could easily be MOB outfits

i only know of central Scotland but maybe you could check out the outfits then find the designer and see if the stock near you? links are below

  • My Mum went with Jacques Vert too. She broke with tradition and has gone with a fit and flare rather than shift dress. For me I want her to be comfortable and she loves it. It also came up a little big so having it in a size "lower" was a real confidence boost to her image

I must admit I am having more fun finding bits for her than for me! image

  • Take a look at the Bombshell Dress's that Milla Grace Brighton stock they go to a size 18 and there is something that these dresses to that are SUPER flattering! They are comfortable and easy to accessorise, also you can wear them again! Also you can shop and return online -

  • Try Florentyna Dawn of Stockport. They have their own line that is as well made as the more expensive items at a fraction of the price.

  • I live in Essex and I bought a fabulous Condici dress and jacket in silver grey from a store in Essex.  I am actually selling this, however.  I can give you more info if required.  Size 20.

There is hand made hat and shoes and clutch bag to complete the ensemble.

    Good luck for the wedding.
