First Dance Songs! Unusual!?!

Ooops, deleted the txt by accident!

My fiance and I don't have a 'song' and the only songs we can agree on aren't very first dance-y!

The contenders so far are:

Colplay - Yellow

Elbow - One Day Like This

Could we dance to these songs? Are they inappropriate?

Your advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Donna

  • Anything goes nowadays. My H2B wants our first dance song to be Nothing else matters by Metallica or Paranoid by Black Sabbath!!

    I think I can change his mind(hopefully)!

In my town there are dance schools that choreograph any song you want and then teach you the dance in 5 sessions. It does cost roughly £250 but its worth it if u think you need a bit of help with a certain song.

I think "Yellow" is a safer bet though.Move the furniture out of your living room and start practising now!

  • I don't know if we can justofy £250 on dance lessons... But I don't think we'll have much choice!

For now I keep listening to more 'weddingy' songs in the hope that one will jump out at us!
  • Hi there, we're having Bubbly by Colbie Caillat, it's really sweet, and we are learning a foxtrot froma local dance teacher for £9 a session (yes really - and she's fab!) we learnt the routine in the first session as it was something very simple, so now it's just perfecting it. I'd look in your yello pages of you want a dance teacher, many of the local dance classes do 'after hours' sessions which won't break the bank!
  • Oh my god! i love your h2b idea about metallica "nothing else matters" its great- so different! We were thinking of having Extreme "more than words" (h2b's choice) or pogues " love you till the end" (my choice)

  • We're having Fans by Kings of Leon, not really a first-dance type song but we love it.

We are considering a few dance lessons to make sure we don't make a total hash of it on the day!

There's a company called First Dance UK who specialise in this sort of thing xxx

Donna, I am loving your first dance ideas.

One day like this is a fab song. Not sure how you'd dance to it but think it'd be really different.

hey ladysmirnoff, we're having pogues too!! Went through torture trying to find a "suitable" wedding song but with no success, so we are having "Rainy Night in Soho". Not weddingy, but fabulous!
  • were having Goo goo dolls 'Iris' and I don't care if its weddingy or not its our song lol
  • Iris! I love that song! Its one of my faves! Go for it!

I think me and H2B are gonna learn to do a waltz... seems easiest out of all the dances!

hehe we're having the accoustic version of Everlong by the Foo Fighters, mised in with 'our song' which is by Pendulum.... my man is getting very excited about it all so I've left him to sort out the music. He never usually dances so I'm willing to go with whatever he's happy to get up and jig around too, hehe!
  • I'm after an alternative first dance song too but havn't got very far unfortunatly, so I'll be watching this thread for ideas!

I really really love "Miss you" by Blink 182 but it's not very wedding-y, sums us both up perfectly though "halloween on christmas" and all that.

  • we inadvertently ended up having ours to the Timewarp... make of that what you will! We signed the register to One Day Like This and it makes me fill up every time I hear it bollygirl! We were supposed to go see Elbow live a couple of weeks ago but I had just come out of hospital and wasn't able to go - was just wanting to hear that song live... it's so beautiful!
  • Just seen that Elbow are doing one date in March at Wembley! Have to go!

We're not having a weddingy song, we're having Darren Tate- let the light shine in. It's full on Trance but it's our song; dancing to it could eb interesting!
  • I have decided that 'typical' first dance songs are too cliche for us! We're not all lovey dovey like that it all seems so gushy!

Definately going with an unusual one!

We're having Fire In My Heart by the Super Furry Animals as we both love the Super Furries!
  • we are stuck with this one and any help would be great.we are having our fav' live local band play so somthing they could actually play would be great, they are a cover band with a male singer, they cover things like AC DC and Matalica etc etc

...we are thinkin of having Sweet Dreams, but not sure...plus we cant dance to save our lives and only one very very expensive dance school near us

    ahhhhh

Foo fan - I loveeee those songs.

I'd love Aurora....but he isn't as in to the foos as I am image

We're having 18th Floor Balcony by a band called Blue October. LOVE the song, we're both having the lyrics tattooed on us.....better then having his name I suppose! image
  • We are having a little bit of everything for our first dance, truely! We looked around at different ideas on youtube and came across this "evolution of dance" so we basically took the idea from there but added together our own songs that we like with fun lyrics and put it all together on windows movie maker and made our own mix! We really didnt want to do a slushy song so thought this would be a fun and memorable first dance. Starts off with unforgetable by nat king cole and then about 1.20 mins in we added sound effects so it looks like the cd is broken and scratched then it jumps into the way you make me feel by micheal jackson then to crazy in love by beyonce and then to lets do the twist by chubby checker then to im so excited by the pointer sisters then to drive me crazy by britney spears then finally to finish off adam sandlers i wanna grow old with you. The whole mix we have made to have our first dance to lasts just under 5 mins. We are going to our local dance studio just down the road to have help in the choreography in July. We even have the dj involved in that when the cd starts jumping we are going to turn to him and ask him whats going on and why is our first dance ruined and then surprise surprise for the guests! Cant wait to see everyones faces! haha image

My daughter (9yrs) chose our first dance... thankfully I managed to talk her out of the Jonas brothers... but she played me an avril lavigne album track & we fell in love with it.... not well known but totally beautiful. Its 'Innocence'.
  • Hi everyone, i love some of the song choices on here! Thank god we're past the days of Cherish and Endless Love etc!! We're having Slide Away by Oasis...much to mums horror image

We are having a very random song Take on Me by A-Ha, not weddingy in the slightest, but it reminds me and my fella of us having a great time together! No idea how we will dance to it, but i am not worried, hopefully everyone will be a bit squiffy by then! They will either laugh or be horrified, but we don't care!!
  • We were thinking about a ska song to dance to... not romantic but fun!

I quite like Madness, It must be love

I went to a wedding which had a ska song as first dance last year and it was brilliant - worked really well! I think you should choose whatever makes you smile, regardless of whether it's weddingy or not. Myh2b wants something that kicks in witha good beat halfway through, so that our friends know when to join in!
