Other options apart from a band?!

hjmukhjmuk Posts: 20
hello all!

I'm brand new to all this, having only just got enagaged a month ago. I bought my first wedding magazine the other day and are now over-whelmed by everything! But this website is helping immensely!image

So, my query..what other options are there out there for the reception entertainment? I really don't want a band/DJ for many reasons, one of them being that I know not many people coming to the wedding will dance to the sort of music I like, and I don't want cheese! help! I need something for after the breakfast to keep everyone entertained and I'm at a loss!

why not hire a cellist or little string quartet or something they will play in the background during the wed breakfast. You cant possibly keep everyone happy darling, it is YOUR wedding so you have you want for the eveining, of course we like to keep everyone happy but it is your day love xxxx

  • Stand up comedian? Casino? Magician? Or you could hire a 70s disco band that put on a full show (more like a musical than a band) eg. Brutus Gold's Love Train or

At the end of the day though you have what you and your h2b want. Your guests will just have to like it or lump it! We were really worried about getting a rock band because not many people would like it but we've compromised by getting a band that will play modern and classic rock and a DJ that will play 70s and 80s. Hopefully that will cater to everyone's taste!

What kind of music are you into by the way?!!

Haha...I like heavy techno and trance, maybe some nice drum 'n' bass..but I wouldn't do that to my Gran..;) I like the idea of a comedian though! That's a great idea!
  • ahhhh I see that might not go down too well with all your guests! hee hee.... I'm dying to see my parents/aunts/uncles rocking out to Queens of the Stone Age!

We're having a ceilidh band with a caller to lead the dancing - thought it was more accessible to all, from kids to grandparents, than anything else. Other people I know have done this and it's worked really well. :\)

One idea I had was to find a dance instructor who come along and do a dance class and demo.... something a bit different - either Jive or Salsa - keeps the guests busy and give them a laugh as well no doubt,

You could always create your own wedding playlist on an ipod - that way you could have a real mix of things for various stages in the evening.

Check with your venue they will probably have an ipod fitting for the sound system

I sort of know where your coming from. If our first dance was a song where we met (uprising) everyone woulod have gone home before we'd finished?
