Entertainment on a budget?

Has anyone got some ideas for entertainment on a budget? I'm concerned that i don't want our wedding to be boring and impersonal.

I'll give you a quick run down of our day and see what you think we can add to give it that oomph!

Ceremony (Readings from MOH and MOB)

Drinks reception and photographs

Wedding breakfast and speaches

First dance (we are having dance lessons so we can waltz first dance)

Dance with my dad

DJ - General wedding evening reception 7pm-12pm

9pm - Fireworks

12pm-3am - Move into cellar bar for afterparty for guests who wish to stay/are staying at the venue

We will have a sweet buffet throughout the day and evening

Could anyone please suggest some ideas for entertainment between the wedding breakfast and evening? Also any other ideas for during the day/night?

I was planning on having outdoor games for those who want to play during the drinks reception but as we are now getting married in Feb, this will not be possible (unless i want to freeze my guests lol)

  • What about a magician? That's what we are having , and they can work their way around small groups and get people talking! They aren't necessrily too expensive either.

Also, we are having entertainment for the time between our ceremony and wedding breakfast, as we are having our pics taken then, but I think this is when guests can get a bit bored.

After the dinner finishes, the bar will be open, and I imagine that people will just mingle for an hour before the band starts.
  • Thank you for your ideas. MrsS2b17 could you please let me know where you are hiring your casino tables from? Does your quote include the men/women who work the table? I have been thinking about hiring a casino for inbetween the reception and evening do but i have had drastically varying quotes from around £300-£800. Ideally, i'd like not to spend anymore than £200 if possible.

  • Just one word of warning with the casino idea - if it finishes when your disco starts that will be fine, but i went to a wedding where they had a mini casino, and not one person was on the dance floor all night, as they ran them at the same time and everybody stuck around the casino tables. If they have different timings, or you are not fussed about people dancing though then it will be great fun i am sure!
  • Thank you.

We're going to have it for 2 hours during the cross over, after the wedding breakfast, while evening guests are arriving before the DJ starts. We'll then have first dance, fireworks and the party in the marquee with the dj x
