We're having a church wedding. We spoke to the vicar and he said we could hire the church hall for our reception for £10. It has a fully fitted catering standard kitchen and I'm bringing in 2 workmates as our private caterers (one has a catering qualification). Downside is that we'll have to provide alcohol ourselves as the Church Hall isn't licenced for alcohol - so no pay bar. Overall though, we're saving money by doing it this way.

If you're having a church wedding, I'd strongly advise you to ask your minister if you can hire the Church Hall.

    Bamba x

PS our honeymoon is a cheap package holiday for 2 in Malta. We're not loaded by any means but we know we'll enjoy it.

Whoops! Sorry! Just editing because I missed an important detail out. I never even mentioned budget! We're working to a budget of £5,000 but we're hoping to do it more cheaply, £3,500 (or even £3,000) if possible!

You can pay anything from next to nothing if you do it yourself to over £100 per head if you go to a very posh hotel. It's easier to work out how many people you are having (or want) and how much you are willing to spend on the day and work backwards. We had 185 people and had approx £35K so we knew we could speand about £70 a head.
  • I'm in the process of trying to find a venue, I've seen four venues and going to see two more this weekend. I've been quoted from £5700 to £12,600 for a civil ceremony and wedding breakfast for 85 people and 145 guests for an evening reception (including evening buffet, bridal suite, drinks package and catering for all)

  • Im new to all of this, but Ive just got the shock of my life looking at the cost of some of your weddings, our budget is around £10,000 not including the honeymoon, but some of those little hidden extras which I havent really thought about are prob going to boost that up quite a bit. I think we're going to be skint for a VERY long time, imageops: x

    To Christinawatson...

I think a wedding budget is individual to everyone, from where (reg office, church or hotel), to how many people and friends you have and also the area you live in so dont worry about what everyone else's are just get the best deal for yourself! xx

  • Our church ceremony is costing about £450 which covers the Priest/flowers/organist/donation to church etc

Our reception is £58.50 per head. This includes:

A reception drink (anything from champagne to bottled beer)

3 course meal, coffee & mints

    3 bottles wine per table

Free flowing wine on top table (not that we'll use that!)

    Glass of Cava to toast

    Flower arrangements for tables

Bridal suite with Champagne & 2 personalised champ flutes

    Additional suite for my parents

    Chair Covers

Buffet in evening = £12 per head but have to cater for all guests.

    DJ for evening = £200

We're spending most of our budget on the reception as we fell in love with the place. We're saving in a lot of other areas such as cars/photographs/flowers etc.

Forgot to mention, we're getting married in South Wales.

  • Hi Angel,

I think the church is costing around £500, but I'm not entirely sure as my parents have sorted that with the vicar.

For the reception we are paying approx £10,000 for 4 course wedding breakfast and drink for 100 people. Our venue is £2500 to hire exclusively (it's a stately home with bedrooms rather than a hotel). We're getting married in Ilkey in North Yorkshire.

    Hope that helps xxxx
