Torn between 2 wedding rings....

Me and H2B went to look at wedding rings the other day, he happily chose a plain platinum wedding band. However I'm torn between two rings. One is a plain platinum band and the other is a gorgeous full eternity ring, now I know that traditionally full eternity rings are supposed to be for a particular anniversary which escapes me right now. But it did look fantastic next to my engagement ring, however I do like the idea of a plain band with a message from H2B engraved inside. H2B says that if I pick a full eternity I would be 'doing myself out of a present!' image HELP! Did anyone else go for a full eternity wedding ring? Not to mention that the full eternity is over £1K more than the plain band. Budget... What budget, that is fast becoming a distant word...!!! Any advice appreciated!

I had exactly the same dilemma, but ultimately couldn't resist the diamonds!!

    See my thread: -

Have you tried them both on together? i.e. get the plain wedding band, then have the eternity at some point in the future? Or (as with mine) get a slightly wider wedding band with the ring of diamonds, then have a normal eternity ring with just diamonds later on?

H2B and I fortunately shared the opinion that although we had a budget in mind for our rings, we were prepared to spend whatever was required on them as they are really the most important part of our wedding spending!!

Good luck & let us know what you decide!

I wanted a plain band for the wedding, planning on having the ethernity ring for anniversary or birth of first child.

Depends on how bling you are!if you have a lovely engagement ring then a nice plain band can set it dont want something to take away from it.having said that,my friend has the diamond wedding band and it looks gorgeous.I also couldnt decide but have chosen to go for the plain band to set engagement ring off and then eternity ring for next big occasion!

  • Good to see I'm not the only one with this dilema.

I've put a deposit down on a plain platinum wedding band which is 2.5mm wide, but H2B went to a different shop for his palladium wedding band and I saw the most gorgeous wedding ring. its thinner than the one I originally wanted (I have very small fingers) and has diamonds set at intervals round the band. Its not a full eternity ring as i want to wait until we have our first child for that !! ooohhh i dont know what to do. part of me is swayed towards the one with the diamonds.

Its similar to this one - but platinum instead

Would love to hear your opinions

I wanted a plain white gold band before we started looking, but when i tried oneon with my enagement ring it just didn't look right.

This is similar to my engagement ring

and this is the wedding ring that i chose:

Cant wait til i can wear it!!!

I had this problem too. I wanted a plain band, but it did nothing for my engagement ring. When I tried on some bands with small diamonds dotted in them it really brought my engagement ring out.

H2B just bought mine on Monday - I'm getting this one...
  • I am also thinking of having diamonds on my wedding band I have quite thin fingers so I need something quite thin but i . also wanted a bit of sparkle. You could always get a half diamond wedding band & then a full eternity ring later I think your husband is supposed to give it to you after your first child..

I wasnt sure if i wanted a plain band or one with diamonds in, however i have small fingers and 3mm band looked silly next to my engagement ring. The 2mm plain band looked perfect and the ones with diamonds looked nice but not quite the same. But when i tried an eternity ring on with the plain band and my engagement ring it looked gorgeous.

This is the wedding ring we ordered.

    and my engagement ring is

i cant wait to wear it now got ages

  • Hey,

I say go for the sparkles! Who says that H2B can't just buy you a diamond necklace or some other expensive piece of jewellery in place of an eternity ring when the time comes?

    My Engagement ring-

    My Wedding band-

And I wouldn't have it any other way!

    Jordana, check out this jewellers:-

looks like the same ring to me?! I think they do a lot of copies, but as they are based out in Upton Park (or you can buy online), they don't have the same overheads as the high street jewellers.

That way you still get the same gorgeous ring, but at a 1/3 of the cost!

I would say that as long as money isn't a real deciding factor then don't think about the cost of rings when choosing. At the end of the day your wedding band is a piece of jewellery that you will wear forever so you want to be happy with it.

I was totally adamant that I wanted a plain band - traditional, elegant etc. But then when we went ring shopping and I tried a very dainty diamond bands I really liked it! It's 3 mm with a swirly engraved pattern on it and 5 small diamonds scattered at the front (not on website or I would attach link) I tried to resist for a while and kept trying plain bands but then after 3 trips into Goldsmiths while out shopping to try it on again I admitted defeat!

Eternity style rings don't suit me as my fingers are very thin so H2B is going to get me a diamond necklace or earrings instead for our first anniversary or first child (whatever the tradition is - will worry about looking that up once married!) So point out to H2B that there are other ways diamonds can be given...!!!

  • Hey Fudge1411, after reading your post I think I'm going to be sticking with a plain wedding band, as I think it will make the diamond on my engagement ring stand out more. think), I might ask the shop if i can change my order to a 2mm ring instead though as my fingers are very small and i need to leave room for an eternity ring once we've had our first child. he he
