Share your bargains! ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ˜

With so many threads on here about budgets and planning a low cost wedding, I thought it might be useful for us all to have a place to share any bargains we find. So please let us all know if you happen to find a wedding ‘steal’ that others may like too. X

A lot of you may know that many Poundworld stores are closing down. I was in my local store yesterday and found hen night themed stuff going for 10p and the arts and crafts items are 50% off which is handy if you are making your own invites or wedding decor

  • I also wanted to recommend Poundworld’s closing down clearance sale. I went today and managed to pick up some battery operated waterproof floating tealight candles in a pack of 2 for £0.70 (home bargains had the same thing for £1.50). They also had transparent dome umbrellas for £1.50 each.

96 paper fans for 20 pounds. Which I thought was pretty good.

Not exactly a "bargain" but our florist is soooo reasonable! We were getting quotes for £1500+ and ours is doing it for about £600. And we are having quite a lot of flowers too! If anyone in Surrey/Sussex needs a florist I highly recommend Flowers by Lulu! X

After a recommendation on a couple of threads on here, I picked up two boxes of Wedding Day scented candles in glass jars (bit like Yankee but another make). They worked out around 65p each from Home Bargains. I’m planning on putting them in welcome gift bags (we’re having a destination wedding) and the extras will just be used on tables.

Ooh this is a good idea. I’ve mentioned on my thread that I got Bridesmaids dresses from Missguided and also used 30% off discount code. They usually have a few codes available

I got some glass candles from wilko for 50p each off the clearance shelf, tin milk jugs from wilko also for £7 and packets of seeds from the pound shop to grow my own flowers.

I used a new customer 10% discount code at hobbycraft to get a postbox and other decorative bits to go on it.

I made my own table numbers using £1 frames from ikea and bought rolls of organza to make my own chair sashes.

I made my own wedding signs on photoshop and printed them at a local college for £10 each (A1 size) and also asked local photography students to be my photographers for £60 each and free food and drink

    Great idea for a thread,

I’ve tried to get a lot of things with discounts or in the sales  like my shoes, hair comb and picking up a trunk today to be used for the confetti. I’ve liked olanning a while In advance so that I can find good deals and the summer sales

  • Some great finds ladies!

I love the paper fans Fiona! We get married in November but a must if you’re getting married this summer! ๐ŸŒž

If anyone is looking for a cheap ’bride to be’ dressing gown Asda have them online for £4 (only catch is that they only have size 20-22 left.) https://direct.asda.com/george/womens/nightwear-slippers/bride-to-be-dressing-gown/GEM548764,default,pd.html

They are also doing a ‘team bride’ one but again only have the one size. https://direct.asda.com/george/womens/nightwear-slippers/team-bride-dressing-gown/GEM548850,default,pd.html?dual=0&placement_id=GRGTOP&config_id=GRGTOP&strategy=PWBAB&product_id=GEM548850&parent_item_id=GEM548764

Haha! The recent heat is what made me think about it. Definitely need it! Didn't want to leave it too late to order. We get married end of August and last year weather was poor but if it's like this we will need them!

I picked up my hair piece in a 60% off Debenhams sale for 10 pounds.

Just got all my table scatter for 6 pounds (60 p a bag).

I also know several people in retail (used to work in paperchase myself) and have a friend in the works.... so been using their staff discounts to help but things ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ˜‚ It’s not what you know but who you know, as they say! Weddings are expensive enough so I don’t blame you!

Can I ask what candles you got ? Real ones or the artificial? Thank you

  • RoseyGoldRoseyGold Posts: 159 New bride

Real ones. Pillar ones 50p each short ones 2 for 50p.

They had large pillar candles too.

They aren't brilliant quality and aren't completely round to be honest but I figure that doesn't matter at those prices!!

My best bargains are pretty much everything I have bought.....my MIL calls me the yellow sticker queen, I love a bargain!

Venue - it's just such good value ๐Ÿ˜

Photographer - covers the whole South/South East and does packages from £399! He's based in Chichester but happy to travel and a really nice guy.

Honeycomb and pompom decs - bought in bulk from The Works, far cheaper than anywhere else inc eBay.

Tiara, from the Jon Richard website - £13.99 reduced from £45. They have a massive sale on.

My wedding ring £265 in the sale at Goldsmiths reduced from about £650ish. 18ct gold, 0.25 carat diamond half eternity ring.

My dress - £1850 Maggie Sottero dress for £500 in a sample sale

BM gifts from Bloom Boutique in the sale - you get an extra 10% off if you sign up to their newsletter. 5 gifts for £30ish.

Ties & pocket hankies from DQT - Same as Swagger & Swoon but about a third of the price

Bridesmaid & flower girl dresses - chose 2 really popular styles from Little Mistress & Monsoon, then bought them in the right sizes from eBay - hundreds of people wear bridesmaid dresses once then sell them on. Got all 5 dress for £65.

I've also bought the 59p Wedding Day candles from Home Bargains for gift bags!

just to let you know hobby craft have loads of things on sale at the moment, well worth a look

  • Cecilia13Cecilia13 Posts: 426 New bride

    Hobbycraft sale definitely!

Also the big Debenhams' with Berketex Bride (I think that's what it's called!) often have a rack of samples in amazing condition; I got mine for £650 down from about £1300 or something around that, from the Oxford Street one in London.

Got my shoes in charity shop in Chiswick; Chiswick and Ealing both have so many with some pretty amazing stuff, my shoes are Pinko and had only been worn once, worth around 200 and got them for 50. So if you're London-based I really recommend digging around in those!

So far my save the dates magnets are my biggest bargain (the photo is a bit blurry, the writing is much crisper in person).

I found a free design on wedding chicks and adapted it to suit my colours and what information I wanted on my save the dates.

I bought some magnetic photo paper from Poundworld (£1 for 2 a4 sheets, though I did see it on sale for 70p in their closing down sale).

I printed the image (6.5cm x 6.5cm square) and managed to fit 6 on each a4 page.

I have a printer ink subscription so I get 300 pages of colour printing a month for 7.99, but I found a code for 2 months of free printing so really the ink didnt cost anything. If I didn't have the code it would have cost about 3p per sheet of colour printing

So it cost me £1 for 12 magnets. Which means the cost about 8p each! Or 9p each of you include the ink.

We got our wedding flowers from hobby craft and amazon and have paid £80 for 5 bouquets!

Our venue is a bargain- £3000 for three days hire at hookhouse farm, surrey. One to decorate, one for the wedding (August bank holiday) and one to take down.

our Food is also a bargain- £1200 for a sit down meal (hog roast plated meal) and an afternoon tea buffet in the evening - the pig and jacket based in Sussex.

Also advise anyone serving their own alcohol to go to Calais and pick it up. We got free travel through majestic wine and paid £2 a bottle for really good wine!

I found these led light up letters in hobbycraft for £8 each. We got a C&C, they're the perfect size to stand on a table or by a guest book and look way more expensive! The lights are nice and bright too :)

  • I love this thread!  Thank you for starting Nottinghamshirebride!

Some great tips!  I haven't really bought much yet but got my dress for £295 in sample sale and just ordered 50 magnetic Save the Dates for £17.99 +p&p.  Not as good a bargain as Seatreasure!

    Now that's a bargain!

Mine is definitely our favours. Espresso Baileys Martini mini 50ml cocktails.

100 50ml glass bottles for £32, cheapo Irish Cream for £3.85 a bottle, espresso liqueur for £7 a bottle and cheap vodka at £10. 100 labels for £11 and food colouring to dye the mixture bright red at £5.

Just been to M&S and they have lots of photo frames and faux flower arrangements in vases (possible centerpieces?) in their sale if that's of any use to anyone.

I work opposite a Hobbycraft, I only allow myself to visit once a month!
