Flower girls - not mini brides!

I'm finding it really hard to find any flower girl dresses (age 3 and 6) that are simple and not white and puffy - any dress would do - preferably with a bit of (emerald) green in it - don't even need to be proper flower girl dresses . Have tried the high street (monsoon, next etc) with no joy.

My wedding is going to be quite vintage (sorry to sound arty but more expressionist than shabby chic) and colours are ivory black and emerald green but I am totally foxed by what to get the flower girls (they stubbonly refuse to wear black like to older bridesmaid and I think they are probably right!)

Anyone got any good ideas would be a great help

  • What about an ivory dress with an emerald green sash?

this bridesmaid dress supplier has a flower girl section- may still be more pouffy than you're after but it supplies most dresses in a wide range of colours inc emerald green- hope it helps xx

Try there, I did a google search on Party dresses instead of flower girl dresses. I know I certainly had some black velvet party dresses as a child.

Maybe with the run up to Christmas the highstreet will have more black/green items.

I know what you mean by flowergirl being mini brides.

I like old-fashioned hand smocked dress for little girls. I have met a designer on the plane who designs dresses like that for John Lewis. I think it might be under the Christening section and they have just some plain white dresses and you could add a ribbon yourself.

Otherwise Bonpoint has some gorgeous ones but it might be a bit expensive.

I got my flowergirls pale blue silk dresses from Monsoon - they also come in ivory. Not at all mini-bride looking though, I swear! image I can't find a picture on their website but would highly recommend going into one of their stores xx

We have been looking at dresses for our flowergirl, who's going to be 6. I find the ones that look like mini versions of grown up dresses kind of creepy.

My bridesmaids are having dresses from Watters Wtoo range and I found that they also have a little girls' range for flowergirls.

This is the one I like (ignore the dodgy hair):

It's very plain and you can have it in all different colours. And it doesn't look like a grown up dress. There are some other nice ones too. Obviously there are some hideous ones as well but I think they have a bit of a beauty pageant mentality!

Anyway, with that dress you could always get ivory dress with an emerald green sash. The Watters dresses come in all sorts of different colours.

Dessy have lots of colours too but they're not so much to my taste. I prefer the little girls to look like little girls rather than freaky short teenagers.
