I have bought some bridesmaid dresses from Debenhams. One of the girls who tried a dress on will need in my opinion the dress realtering. It is a prom style dress with panels down of satin like material in the main body and a seperate part for the bustier. It has a side zip.

The bridesmaid in question is very slim. She tried on the size 10 it was very tight round her chest, but in the body very loose. So we tried on a size 12 which was big on the chest and very spacious in the body.

My question is can a seamtress radically alter a dress of this style to fit a person of a smaller dress size?

Or has anyone had any alterations made to a prom stly dress?

Any info greatly appreciated as very worried as Im having 5 bridesmaids.

Regards xxxx

  • i cant see how that will be a problem for a seamtress. ring one in your area and ask her they can do amazing things including making dresses bigger so i wouldnt worry too much. xx
  • Thanx for the advice, will visit a seamstress this week with bridesmaid in question. just wondered what they cud possibly do as I have no dressmaking knowledge.

    thanx xxx

only thing I would add is that side zips are more difficult to alter.
