Black tie dress code

I am looking for some advice. I am attending a wedding in a few weeks that has a black tie dress code. As it is two weeks before our wedding I am really reluctant to spend any more money buying a new dress (as much as I would like to!).

Do you think this dress would be okay with some nice heels or is it too casual? My other option is a floor length silk pistachio green dress that I wore to my graduation ball but I just feel that might be too OTT.

Opinions will be greatly received!

  • My understanding of black tie is that a dress needs to be floor length, so I would go with your graduation dress.

  • I agree with the above, not formal enough for a black tie affair. Always better to be overdressed and look and feel like a queen than under-dressed and feel a fool.

    Definitely the graduation dress!

Black tie doesn't always have to be floor length, you can go formal cocktail dress but I've always been told no more than one inch above the knee (F runs in fancier circles than I do so we've attended a few black tie balls!).

I'd probably say the graduation dress too, of the two.
