  • Hi Purplefox

I dont have any contact details im afraid but just wanted to say that i've got quotes for similar prices. I was told by my wedding planner that it would be from 180 euros for a local hairdresser and more for a hairdresser from one of the cities ie Siena etc. Ive seen quotes at 350 euros for hair nd makeup which i really think is extortionate! x
  • Thanks Mandabel, it is ridiculous isn't it!

Hunt goes on ! although I'll probably give in and pay - not wanting my hair to be a mess on the big day!

Where are you getting married / which planner are you using?

    good luck with it all

  • It is quite expensive, I also did some searching, and in the end, I took my friend a make up artist over, as I knew she was good. There are a lot of hairdressers out there, try Toni and Guy, but the make up trials i had weren't very good, even those that came highly recommended as the italian make up style is quite heavy, I did find one english girl though, who has trained in TV make up in the UK and was great as she spoke english and she was working out in Tuscany,. her name is Abbi, email [email protected] I did a trial with her, and she was amazing! I looked 10 years younger, but it was pretty, not heavy, so I recommend her if she is still there.
  • Oo thats good to know - certainly worth a try. Im thinking of taking my hairdresser out with me also. Ive got 7 bridesmaids so sure it'd work out much cheaper for me to fly her out and pay for her accomodation. Only an extra mouth to feed at the end of the day!

Purplefox I'm getting married in Siena Town Hall and having the do at Borgo Scopeto. We went to a couple of places but this just left me speechless! A rarity i can tell you!! We're using Elisaz, what about you?

Its great to speak to someone doing similar things! xx
  • Rainbow Gold, thanks for the tip, I'd heard too that the italian make up was quite heavy - not my style either - more bronzer and lipgloss! - I had a wee look at your wedding report (nosey) - photo's were fab!

Mandabel you are going to have such great photo' from siena - when we visited a few weddings came out and the brides must have felt like filmstars with all the attention from the tourists !

We met with ElisaZ , she seemed really nice, she showed us a large villa nr Radda in Chianti but by then we'd already seen the venue we are going with and it was very hard to beat - the one she showed us was amazing from the outside but inside it wasn't very nice at all - all a bit dated - a real stately home though. We wanted a self catering villa for a week, our party is very mixed so we though it would suit everyone's budget a bit better if we went self catering. But we loved the relais we went to see, so lovely, luckily our venue has the same luxury as a relais but we have the self catering we wanted. How many people are you having - 7 bridesmaids! , we are only having 35 people to the wedding and no formal top table etc, but my best friend is a bridesmaid - we don't even have a best man!

Our venue is villa san crispolto (romantic italian weddings) - we're not using a planner, rather the owner puts us in touch with all the various suppliers - seems to be working out very well so far (apart from the cost of hair and makeup!) 251 days to go - and counting every one!

Have you got much left to plan? we've just got to sort out the hair, book our DJ and transport to the town hall only other headache is mother of the bride outfit!
  • Hi Purplefox

Wow your plans sound amazing and I cant believe we're only a couple of days between each other!!

Elisa is lovely but I must admit I really wish I hadnt got a planner - feel its more hassle than its worth and other than the translating at the wedding sure i could've sorted everything else. She showed us to a place called Castello di Tornano which i admit was lovely to look at but was just really dark, dingy and really dated and couldnt justify my guests paying all this money out to stay somewhere that just wasnt worth anywhere near what they were asking. She was really pushing for us to opt for this thos.

In the end we've opted for a place she's never used before, Borgo Scopeto, but its stunning. We're only staying here on the Sunday and the Monday, the day of the wedding, as would cost too much to stay longer so we're staying in Rome for a few days before.

Theres about 56 of us going out, majority are friends. The reason i'm going unbelievably OTT with the bridesmaids is that ive lost both my parents over the last two years and my friends have been nothing but amazing so its my way of saying thank you to them. Costing me a fortune tho! Ha ha

Re plans i've got photographer sorted, Julian Bower of Italian Wedding Photographer and DJ who is again costing a fortune but fingers crossed will be worth it!

What day do you fly out then? What time do you get married?

Sorry will shut up ranting now!

    Manda x
  • Don't worry its nice to have someone to chat to!

You are going to have a great party with 56, especially if its mostly folks of similar age. My H2B lost his parents and isn't having a best man (our son will be ring bearer and right hand man at the ceremony) so we are not having a top table, the great thing about being away is that you don't need to follow convention and in a way (we hope) will make the fact that people we'd love to be there, who can't, a bit more bearable.

We are going over 27 July, we are having 4 days on the coast with my close family a chance for the kids to enjoy the beach for a few days, we then head to florence to meet up with bridesmaid and my friends, heading to the villa on the 1st of August, my hen night is on the 3rd so I'll raise a wee glass to you during the day! (italian cooking lesson for the girls then all guests going to local nightclub for karaoke! (nice))

we get married on the 5th, guests are at the villa until the 8th but we are leaving on the 7th and driving through umbria over to another part of the tuscan coast for our honeymoon - i can't wait! actually writing it down I've just realised how lucky I am - although I am terrified about the bank balance.

We met Julian when we went over (through italianweddingplanners) but we are using stefano nannucci as he was one of the photographers recommended by the venue

I really can't wait but I do wish we could have got a 'cooler' month - I don't want to be bright red and sweaty in my photo's!

I've decided to do hair and make up myself, or rather talking friends into doing it - I'm getting a couple of them a make up lesson so they can do the business and getting my hairdresser to show another friend how to do my hair - that way I'll still be pampered!

250 days to go now..... image

Hey Purple fox, we meet again! Im never off this forum these days!! ha ha!! So you decided hair and make up yourself then? Take it you could not find anything cheaper! Look s like its pretty similar all over Italy reading the other posts!!! I think I will do my make up myself too as it seems so expensive, Im sure if you have face powder close you can have your bridesmaids help top it up every now and then for the photos!! Think thats what Ill be doing!! ha ha!!! image

Thats great you can get your friends to do your hair too - thats fab! Great idea! And your hen do and plans before hand sound great!!!!

  • Hi Bels!! I'm logging off in a mo - got to get some work done!!! have you managed to narrow down a choice of venues yet? hope you become a marco bride!! - maybe if you go before may you could check out Nello the hairdresser for me - just in case I win the lottery and change my mind!! image
  • Wow purplefox your plans sound so fab. I asked my hairdesser if she would be willing to come if i paid for her flight and accomodation and she said she'd love to and she wont charge anything for doing the hairs so will definitely work out much cheaper! We're going to do our own makeup aswell - think i would feel much more comfrotable anyway.

Cant believe just how expensive some of the things are - sure it will all be worth it tho. Its going to fly by too after xmas!

  • I used Rome hairdresser Janita Helova. She did great job and had normal prices even italy it's pretty expensive! her email [email protected]

  • Just thought my information can be helpful for you, especially for those getting married abroad in Italy,  Im getting married in Amalfi coast in september 2016, as ive been organising my wedding for a long time, as Id like it to be just perfect, ive come across a really cool hairstylist and make up artist. We have already got in contact, discussed the details, she is really helpful with giving me different pieces of advices concerning the general look, what hairstyle and make up is better for my wedding dress, style of my wedding, my face features etc. She lives in Italy and speaks fluent English fortunately, as in Italy its quite difficult to find people who speak good english and who are able to understand what you exactly want. I have already booked my trial in April in Rome and im really looking forward to it! She has a team of professionals (nail artists, make up artists and hair stylist) who needs them for the guests. She was really kind to give me contacts of the best wedding photographers! She moves all around italy by the way!She is Annartstyle make up and hair, http://www.annartstyle.com/

https://www.facebook.com/AnnartstyleMakeUpAndHair, Im really happy Ive found her for my wedding, as she is a professional and has very reasonable prices, as in Italy its very important to find professional people who you can rely on! If you need i also can give you some other pieces of advice of other people ive found! hope my info can be very useful!

Ive also found thanks to my wedding planner, my make up artist and hairstylist in Rome
