Malta - affidavit free to marry

We are planning on getting married in Malta and have been looking into the legalities. It all looks relatively simple apart from the affidavit stating we are free to marry. This would be used in place of a certificate of no impediment as the UK government doesn't issue these to fellow commonwealth countries. Does anybody know if 1) we need a solicitor to draw this up? or 2) we can use a template and just ask a solicitor to witness and sign?

  • I recently had one of these done as I am getting married in Grenada in Jan next year.  I used a template (provided by the resort team) and got it certified by a Notary Public, this was much cheaper than using a solicitor.
