Donate your baby's Cord to help save a life

Just came across this on the Anthony Nolan Trusts website.

A really great thing to do!

  • Our local hospital does cord stem cell collection, it's worth doing, as your placenta only gets thrown away otherwise. (unless you want to take it home)

This is an excellent thing to do, and something that doesn't get enough publicity.

Having watched our friends child battle leukemia from 1 year old, until she lost her fight aged 4, I can honestly say that if something so small can help a child in that awful situation it's worth it. I think it's something that should be done as a matter of course now, and opt-out-able if people really object for personal reasons.

I would also urge anyone who can to get on the bone marrow list - having seen what this awful disease can do first hand I have been nagging everyone I know!

Should we ever be lucky enough to have a child we will certainly be doing it, and are both now on the register, along with our family and friends x

Would love to do this - such a shame so few hospitals offer this.

I wanted to do it but not the option at my hospital
  • I'm donating my cord blood - was given a leaflet about the hospital and can find no reason for not doing it as it is risk free.

Great idea...will definately be checking if our hospital does it image

    Xxx
  • I would have loved to do this. Although I was aware before I gave birth it was never mentioned once my baby had arrived. With all the emotion and joy of my little one arriving in to the world I forgot to ask. It's such a shame and should definitely be routinely offered to mums after child birth x
