The indie wedding fair is great, isn’t it? Glad you’ve found some cake suppliers!!

Yes it was exactly what we wanted! We went to the Trafalgar warehouse one as well which had good suppliers but there just wasn't as much of it. There's one on at Whirlow hall farm next weekend which I was going to try and go to as well but now we're in the middle of sorting cake and flowers I'm not sure how useful a wedding fayre will be as we'll have the majority of suppliers.

  • Music

H2B and I both love chilled acoustic music and we saw an amazing musician at a festival last year, well before we were engaged. We decided at the time that when we get married we'd love to ask him to play. Unfortunately, after tracking him down on Facebook it turns out he is extremely hard to get hold of and I can't find any other way to contact him.

Luckily when we were at the indie wedding fayre we heard another guy that we loved (Michael Mulholland if anyone fancies a listen) so have decided to book him. He does DJ as well and is £850 for both so I don't think we have really saved any money by going for one supplier but hopefully it will just make life easier. We were initially going to have him playing just before or during the wedding breakfast but with this package we get 2x 45 minute sets so not sure when to have them - does anyone have any suggestions?.

You could do before the ceremony and then during the drinks reception.  People generally like to have a little "light" music during those time periods and he sounds like he would be perfect!

Oooh I love the idea of before the ceremony but ours is at a church so will have to see if he'd do two locations, worth asking though as I think that would be brilliant!

I had thought about the drinks reception but ours is in a museum so people will probably spread out quite a bit through the museum, I might do it then anyway though as those that aren't interested in the museum can just stay near him and listen instead. Then hopefully everyone will be happy!

  • Flowers

As I mentioned, I went to a couple of good wedding fayres recently and so am really making moves with suppliers now. I saw a few lovely florists that I picked up fliers for and after trawling through their websites, H2B and I narrowed it down to our two favourites. We have now spoken to both of those and got quotes so just need to decide between them as we love them both. We(I) really want something quite natural and relaxed feeling, not too structured and colour wise we will go for lots of greenery, with blue/greys and ivory.

    Botanicals

I was so drawn to Botanicals as it was probably the first florist I saw that had a display of completely what I want, I loved everything she had on display and really liked the fact that she used a lot of things like thistles and lavender and similar things (I really know nothing about flowers so this will probably be the worst post ever to read - sorry). She had the most gorgeous button holes - even beloved Pinterest hasn't been able to show me anything as nice!

We went to meet with the owner Sarah at her house as she works from home, we felt so welcome and relaxed when we went round and I just thought we got on with her so well, she completely understood exactly what I wanted and was coming up with such amazing suggestions. I loved her and wanted to go for her there and then!

    Frances and Rose

We met Frances and Rose at the indie wedding fayre and my mum said their flowers made her cry - don't get me wrong they were beautiful flowers but honestly my mum is the last person I would expect to get emotional over something like that so I was very surprised! Frances and Rose are based on a farm and grow a lot of their own flowers which I think is really so lovely. They arranged to have a phone call with me which I was a bit skeptical about as I think it is much easier to meet in person with something like flowers but it was better than I expected and it gave them enough info to make a quote. Although they were very friendly I didn't get the same warmth and ease I got from Sarah.

I was quite torn between the two and really hoped there would be a massive price difference to make a clear winner - unfortunately there is a £2 difference in quotes which does not help me much!

  • Desert-brideDesert-bride Posts: 226 New bride

I'd go for a third quote - because then you have enough to hopefully see a price difference and if not - go for the one which gave you the ease :)

  • Florist Decision

so after much deliberating and stalking both florists Instagrams to within an inch of their lives I realised that actually I probably ever so slightly preferred Botanicals' flowers, this plus the fact she was so lovely and easy to get along with meant I knew she was the right decision. She will also move the flowers from the church to the reception venue which is a massive bonus as it seems such a shame to waste all those lovely flowers and only see them for an hour. Here are some of my inspiration pictures:

Good decision and useful that the flowers will be moved! I’m sure the church would be able to make use of them! But I guess you’ve paid for them, you should see them for the entire day.

Yes I know I stupidly feel a bit guilty for taking the flowers from the church but then selfishly I think that I want to see my flowers all day!

  • Transport

I've decided to book a VW camper for my transport to the church, I was hoping to get something a bit different but a company locally will do a one way trip in the camper for £275, which is much cheaper than any other cars I've found and it means there would be room for mum and BMs to come with us as well so I think it's probably the best decision.

I thint pretty much everything is sorted now in terms of suppliers, next job is to sort out save the dates and get on with some DIY so will do some updates soon when we start on that!

  • Been really quiet on here for a while now! Just taken a bit of a step back from wedding planning recently, I felt a bit like there wasn't much left to do so it stopped being so exciting! Planning on getting back into it though and getting on with things though, we keep meaning to design save the dates but in this lovely weather I've had no motivation!

  • I have been thinking about bridesmaids and the order down the aisle. I like having bridesmaids first as I think realistically once the bride has gone down then it's a bit of an anticlimax for them but also I think because I have quite a big dress it might be more practical for them to go after and pull my skirt out a little as they go past so that it looks good from the back? What are people's thoughts on this?

i think it would be fine for the bm to go in front of you as they will be at the end when you get there so can adjust your train if need be. I feel the same with our planning I srull need to sort a couple of suppliers but im currently in the midst of venue crisis so that will have to wait till I decide what we’re doing lol

I wasnt sure about the order as well. But then I realised for practical reasons, as I have a pretty big train and part of my “entrance” is to walk down some stairs into the garden where we‘re getting married, Id need help rearranging my dress. So best they go after. If its similar for you maybe consider them going behind?

re the anti climax thing, to be honest everyone is waiting to see the bride, I dont think it really matters if they go first or after in terms of buildup, most people will be eager to catch a glimpse of you.

Yes that's true, shouldn't be a problem for them to go first and then sort my train. We'll have to have a play around in the church  I think and decide where works best for them.

Oh no what's your venue crisis??

Mine is not such a big entrance as that so hopefully should be okay, I could always get them to sort my dress and then stay still until they've gone down the aisle?

Yes that's true you're right, just don't want them to feel that no one's looking at them because the bride's already been!

  • Suits

we are keen for H2B to have a tweed type suit (maybe tweed, maybe just something with a similar look depending on what he prefers). WerWe thinking probably dark/navy blue with a grey waistcoat to match the BMs. Some of my inspiration is below:

    imageimageimage

There's a lovely little shop called tweed and groom (where desert-bride also got her grooms attire) so I sent h2b and best man off to try some suits and decide what they thought. H2B tried on quite a few and found two he really liked, the groom was supposed to be trying some on as well but for some reason he decided not to so I will just decide for him and he'll have to wear whatever I put him in.

It all sounded very positive though and prices were way more reasonable than I expected so we're both going back on Friday for me to see some of the suits so will hopefully have some pictures of h2b.

    Decided on my dress!!!!

So after trying on two different dresses and loving them both I eventually decided that the first one I loved was much better than the second as I just thought it was so special and I might regret going more simple. However, after falling in love with two I wanted to be sure that this was the dress for me, as mum and dad are paying I would feel way worse if I regretted my dress than if I had paid for it myself. So mum and I decided to go to another shop and make sure there was nothing else out there that I loved more.

So this morning we went to a lovely shop that really could not have been more helpful and tried a few on, low and behold I fell in love with a third dress! However after going home and discussing it, me and mum both decided that dress number 1 was still the winner, I even asked my dad for his opinion and even he (who never ever has an opinion on female clothes - he likes to stand in changing rooms and say "it looks lovely, just buy it" to everything you try on ) preferred the first dress. I also realised that the second and third dresses I've loved were very similar to ones I tried on in the first shop that, although lovely, were very quickly discounted because they weren't as good as the one I loved.

So it is official, I have decided that this is the dress for me:

The skirt comes in ivory or champagne and I have chosen ivory. The bodice is only supposed to come in nude but they have agreed that they can make it with an ivory bodice instead for a small fee, I will also be having the shoulders adjusted to sit slightly more off the shoulder.

This dress is absolutely gorgeous! Loving your thread so far :) we're getting married in August 2019 so similar time frame to you. Can't wait to see how yours progresses!

Yes I do :) it's called Relaxed Summer Weddings in the Chilterns, for some reason the link doesn't work on my signature.

That's minem Yes I'm looking forward to seeing everything you're doing, it's nice to have the timings to compare and to know other people are going through the crazy at the same time !

  • Bridesmaid Dresses

Have spent ages in the past looking for bridesmaid dresses and seen some nice things but nothing wow yet. Last week I was just on Facebook and an advert came up with this dress from chi chi London which I just loved!

    imageimageimage

The colour is gorgeous and just think the dress is so pretty, I sent it to my two BMs and straight away they both said they loved it and wanted to order it! I'm pleased that I've found something they are both equally happy with, they both have very different looks but I know this will suit them both. I managed to get 15% discount code so I'm really chuffed that I got the dresses for £59 each.

I was thinking if we got dresses online we could all meet up to try them on and have a girly time but unfortunately one BM gets back from holiday on Sunday and the other goes away on Monday for a month so not looking likely! I'll just have to get them both to try them on separately so not the end of the world, I'm just praying they love them as much in the flesh now!

Your dress is stunning, think you were right to go for that one over the more simple one, Your bridesmaid dresses are also lovely, I think they compliment your dress really nicely too, especially the top part.

Aww thank you! I still love it which I'm so glad about as I was scared with buying it so early that i'd fall in love with something else. Thank you, can't wait for them to arrive so my girls can try them on!

I agree with MrsS85, the dress is beautiful and it's nice to have that detail matched in the bridesmaids dresses  I also bought my dress so early but i think once you've found the one you love there's no point in keeping looking (although I might have a little look again..just to be sure )! Looking forward to an update on how your bridesmaids look in the dresses!

Thank you! I hadn't even noticed that when I bought the BM dresses but I think they will look really nice!

I agree, was so worried I'd find something else but I do think once you know, you know!

  • BM Dresses

Luckily managed to squeeze a quick hour in yesterday while both BMs were in the country to try their dresses on and I'm over the moon with them, they look gorgeous on and they both really like them which is a relief. I tried so hard to get something that suits them both as they have very different colourings but I think I've managed it with these, they both look lovely I think!

Didn't get a nice picture but you get the idea! Also excuse the tags sticking out.

They look really lovely- you have done well to find a colour that matches both colouring like you say.

They look fab! Perfect fit on both of them

  • I think I've mentioned before that I was being a bridesmaid for my cousin this year. The wedding was a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time, despite it being the only weekend of the summer to have bad weather and the marquee almost blowing away!

One of the BMs sorted a makeup artist for all the BMs and while I got loads of compliments on my makeup I really didn't feel I looked like me and thought it was just too heavy. H2B agreed, he is really not a fan of lots of makeup, so at least I knew what I didn't want for our wedding! My cousin's makeup looked amazing though and less heavy than mine, she actually had it done by a family friend who's not a professional make up artist but just really talented. I've booked her for me, mum, BMs and mum's friend who's been really involved in the wedding planning and will be getting ready with us.
