Money saving tip for brides :)

I wanted some thick, gold sparkly paper to make belly bands for when we put our invites together but it was quite expensive online.

We are going to decorate our house soon and the other day I was browsing wallpaper in B&Q. You know how they always have a roll at the front of each pattern you can rip a sample off? Well I saw this gold sparkly wallpaper, bit OTT for the house but perfect for the invites so I took, ahem, a metre or 2 'sample' and once cut with a guillotine it will do the job perfectly!

If you were doing different coloured invites and wanted coloured or patterned backing paper it would work well too.

Ahh amazing tip, will have to look into that!

Just got this in Home Sense on the clearance shelf for £2.....frame is slightly scratched but will spray it gold anyway to match my other frames and maybe glue a couple of flowers on for our card table.  Will be fun getting all the stickers off. Excuse all the fingerprints!

    This is cute!

Sticky stuff remover is great for getting stickers off- we had loads stuck all over our fridge and they came off super quickly.

Our planning thread: We're completely winging it.
Our report: A fun, classic May day in navy and blush

Thanks GinAndBling, will take a look at that, as I still have some jars with hard to remove glue on too :)

    Bargain, well done!!

  • Just binge read your thread!

Love the sound of everything ๐Ÿ˜Š You’re so organised. I completely agree about the lulls in planning. I’m back on the planning spree now that I can say it’s less than a year (even though it’s only by 5 days ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Thank you! I do like to be organised, but we have purposely kept it pretty simple as with a full time job each and a toddler we get very little spare time. When I see some ladies on here doing DIY weddings with multiple suppliers I am in awe! We literally have the venue, hairdresser, MUA and a photographer and that's it ๐Ÿ˜‚

Exciting to be at less than a year, we will be in 10 days! Though I feel like shit just got real in terms of paying for everything and we seriously need to start saving ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Ooh good tip, ta....like brake cleaner for cars?

  • Ooh I think your wedding day is the day after mine?!

You seem so organised and I feel like I've got so much to do! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Haha we are only organised as we are keeping it quite simple and our venue are fab and take care of so much. Where is your wedding?

  • Haha, we have bought it upon ourselves to do as much of it as possible. It's at a village hall so literally everything is up to us!

Good luck - my brother had a DIY wedding and it was bloody hard work!

    Opinions please!

We have ummed and aahed about designing our invites ourselves, using free downloads, or using Vistaprint and have decided it's probably easier all round to just use Vistaprint.

Invites 1 & 2 are the ones I have always had picked out, and we sent out the matching Save The Dates. OH has now said he does like them but he thinks the bit that says "Best Day Ever" is really cheesy. Is it really cheesy? I could get them to redesign it with a different phrase, but what? Plus it would cost extra.

I have found some back up ones that I like  (3 & 4) but I just love our original pick.

Any preferences/opinions? Does anyone really care? I'm not sure I do anymore, I'm losing the will to live ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜‚

We have chosen the same invites! (3 and 4!).

I wanted the best day ever ones but OH ruled against them as being cheesy. I had a clumsy attempt at combining the two and they just didn't look right.. so based on the fact we both clearly have great taste I'm going 3 & 4 :)

Haha great minds think alike! They are both lovely, but we already used the STDs from design 1/2 so it would be nice to stick with the theme! How funny that your fiancé thought they were cheesy too...bloody men! Love is cheesy :)

I love the dinner and dancing one, we have a best day ever cake topper so I suppose I'm a bit cheesy haha!

Honestly I don't understand them- he made a comment a few weeks ago about not wanting the wedding to be too "flowery or girly" like he isn't a complete softy at heart...

C is such a softy, think this is a poor attempt to disguise it! He's much more sensitive than me and cries at the drop of a hat!!

Wedding planning has all but come to a halt as my bestie is getting married on Saturday and I'm a bridesmaid! It all kicks off tomorrow with the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, then wedding on Saturday and afterparty on Sunday - phew, I'm going to be comatose on Monday :)

    So excited though!

Saturday also marks 1 year until our wedding. But I'll probably be too busy to post so just saying so now :) I can't believe that after this weekend our wedding is next - eeeek!

Aww how exciting! What a nice way to be celebrating you pre-anniversary! Hope you have a lovely time at the wedding.

I really like both invite designs and think they're similar enough nobody would notice they didn't match the STDs exactly. Which have you gone for? I think best day ever is super cute, not too cheesy! My fiance literally chose the most plain, nothingy invites - I said we might as well just text people or print it on a plain bit of a4.... he said he thought everything with a design was "over the top"... it's a wedding, jeez. MEN!

    Thanks :)

I sent both designs to C and he is still mulling it over - I was just annoyed that he let me spend hours designing them and fiddling with text placement etc. to THEN say he wasn't sure about them. As you say - men!!

  • I really like options 3 and 4 for the invites.

Enjoy the wedding! I was so emotional at my best friends wedding, I couldn't stop crying when she put her dress on! Really puts things into perspective when its your turn next. x

    Thanks ladies!

So, I was a bridesmaid on Saturday and it was a really lovely day, the bride and venue were stunning and the rain held off!

BUT I've seen quite a few photos now and I looked absolutely bloody horrific. I actually cried when I saw the photos. I'm very short and struggle to lose weight because of some health issues. The dress chosen wasn't especially flattering to my figure or height which I knew, but we were then given sparkly belts to wear with it which just cut me in half and made me look even dumpier. When I tried on dresses I looked at belts and they just weren't a good look on me.

Even the photos of just my face are awful. I was slim until my late 20s and always hate recent photos of myself, but I'm the biggest I've ever been. I really need to do something about my weight in the next year or I'm going to detest my wedding photos.

Sorry about the self indulgent whingeing x

You have a whole year to lose weight if you want it to make small changes to feel happier- whether that’s just confidence, make up otr posture or something. You’ve got this ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ
