    A lack of update!

I'll be honest, I am SO sad that I got so much of my organization done so quickly, and am now sitting here twiddling my thumbs! Really not much has happened since I ordered my dress. We've been to church a few more times, to make sure we're comfortably in excess of our minimum requirement to go once a month for the 6 months before our wedding, and we're mere days away from being 7 months away.

But there are a few more things happening soon!

This Sunday is a wedding fair at our venue, which is a great way for us to see it again without having to book an appointment on a week day, and also show my parents (who live about 30 mins away) and my sister (who is about an hour away but very nosy! :) We'll also get to see the bar area, which was locked when we were there, and check out some of the spaces we want to use for specific things during the day. I'm pretty excited. I'll have to try and not spend a huge amount of money with any suppliers we really don't need though!

And 17th November is our florist consultation, which seemed SO far away, but now is only a couple of weeks. We haven't really got anywhere with all the Ikea glasses but I should probably try that again.

We also think we might have picked more music for the service: Harris - Faire is Heaven -

And we might have made a few more decisions about organists and so on. Baby steps. But 7 months seems simultaneous super close and miles away. Wedding limbo!

It will be nice to see your venue again, hope your parent and sister like it. Hope the vendors don't tempt you out of too much cash.

  • Wedding fairs, rings and things...

Thankfully my sister and parents LOVED our venue, and the church was open into the afternoon as well and they love that too! I always thought they would, but it's still a relief to have it confirmed. It was also great to see the venue again, and helped us decide that because we're having a suspended balloon ceiling thing (the pic is somewhere in this thread) we don't need any high flowers on the tables - just something low and simple. Which will save a LOT of money, so that's good!

The wedding fair at our venue was vaguely helpful, but having booked our photographer, photobooth, bought my dress already, a lot of the stalls were irrelevant. What WAS good was the ring stalls with trays of things out for my fiance to start looking at and trying on to see what he might want. So far it involves carbon fibre.

Sadly my jeweller (who has done custom things for me in the past, and is currently turning stones from my great grandma's ring into earrings and a necklace for me, and will do my wedding ring) doesn't work with carbon fibre. So I have free rein to go and order my ring on Thursday now! Woo hoo! I was going to wait for the fiance to make a decision, but now don't have to!

Honeymoon progress has also been made... we finally decided we'd like to do a cruise round the Eastern Mediterranean and Adriatic, and have at least narrowed it down to 2 travel agents who run wedding list/honeymoon funds for guests to contribute to. We've gathered lots of brochures, and I had a good chat with a cruise specialist at lunchtime today, so that's all exciting.

Next stop, asking the venue if we can bring in a crazy golf course, and seeing the florist in just under 2 weeks. 7 months 2 days to go!

  • Omg a crazy golf course sounds like a lot of fun!

What are you thinking for your wedoing ring?

  • The ring's going to be platinum (has to be - engagement ring is platinum so I can't have anything softer!), curved to fit below my engagement ring, and half diamond set including two diamonds from my great grandma's ring.

It needs to be skinny or it's going to look odd, so I think it has to be "micro set" where you don't see metal either side of the diamonds.

I guess I'll find out more when I go to order today!

Earrings and necklace are done! Sapphires and diamond from my great grandma's ring set in white gold. Wedding day jewellery sorted. Hurrah! And so happy I can include family things in my day too.

  • They look gorgeous!! What a lovely idea!

  • We have readings!

We're going somewhat off piste with this. We're having a church wedding so need at least one Bible reading, and we like music a LOT. So we're actually ending up having two Bible readings, with both of them being read and then sung.

We don't know which order they go in yet, but...

    Psalm 100

    Song of Solomon chapter 2

Also, sung blessing at the end of the service

  • Also I'm coming in to this. The sheet music arrived today! (Well, yesterday but we were away...)

(My organist is better though ;) )

Wow the music for your entrance is incredible, I can imagine on the day everyone will get goosebumps! Love that you are using stones from your great grandmother, gorgeous jewellery with a gorgeous sentiment (secretly pouting that we don’t have any old family jewels!!)

  • The weekend of flowers!

So this weekend we went to meet our florist. I was SUPER relieved that I loved their shop, she was really nice, and didn't try and give us the hard sell when we said we didn't want massive, expensive table centres cause they'd look weird with our floating balloon ceiling! So refreshing not to try and be upsold for once.

We also planned what flowers go where in the venue, how they'll be laid out on the tables, and what vases we'll use. We took along a few ideas from Ikea, and she said there was no way she could even rent us something similar so cheaply.

So off we went to Ikea to buy LOADS of vases! Our venue has long tables, and our wedding is big, so we're going to need a whole lot of glassware!

    - 48 of these, to have a big white puff of hydrangea in

    - 26 of these, to have white roses in

    - 22 of these, for clouds of gypsophilia

There'll also be (electric) tealights in silver holders but we need to get those. Hoping for a job lot from another bride on eBay. I'll probably be selling ALL of it after my wedding!

But it's such a relief to have that sorted now. Plus ordering my bouquet and everything. Super exciting.

Back to honeymoon planning really, and invite wording once we get confirmation of what time our church service actually is - we're the second one of the day so it depends a little bit on the people before us. Waiting on the vicar to reply once he's checked with them.

Oh, and I got permission from the venue for a crazy golf course!!

I just want to get married RIGHT NOW!!

  • Love the jars!

I absolutely love the blue vases and the idea of a crazy golf course!
Cruising from Barcelona to Venice, via Monaco, Sicily, Corfu, Croatia... super exciting.
And set up a wedding list/honeymoon fund through the travel agent.

Also paid the flower deposit, the crazy golf deposit, and had the time of our church service confirmed. WOO HOO!  :D:D:D:D
  • And my (adult) bridesmaids discovered that their existing dresses match well enough that no-one needs to buy a new one. Hurrah!
My sister, on the left, is wearing a dress she's worn to black tie balls before, and my friend on the right is wearing her wedding dress!

They also planned my hen do, which is pretty exciting.

Oh, and we asked one of our friends to play the organ for us and he said yes. More progress than I was anticipating for a wet weekend!

Honeymoon sounds amazing - Barcelona and Venice are both amazing anyway, but all the other stops too will be so fab. I'm desperate to try a cruise.

Those 2 bridesmaid dresses look like they match perfectly too.

Definitely getting stuff done- honeymoon sounds amazing and how fortunate the dresses fit and match so well. It's like you bought them together from the same shop! I'd be excited to wear my wedding dress again too :)
  • Very successful!! Those dresses look gorgeous, and i have serious honeymoon envy!
  • @Sian91 tbh I think the kitchen lighting and friend’s husband’s phone photography skills are flattering to the dress colours, but they’re close enough to not need to spend any more money, which is a relief!

@CoffeeDogAddict thanks - just hoping our guests are generous  :D (joking, mostly...) Also one of the benefits of not getting married until well into my 30s... the budget is somewhat higher. We know we’re lucky on that one.

Love your thread! Following now :) ooh ooh and love your dress x

Just read your thread. You're dress is so gorgeous! It definitely suits you loads more than the one you showed us from the other shop (though I am intrigued by that and about to have a look on their website). But yours in beautiful.

And the bridesmaids dresses look perfect together!

Although I’m getting married in June, it’s still the UK so I am a bit worried about it being cold.
Backup plan for me and the bridesmaids are silver shrugs, but I can’t decide between the two below.
The Debenhams one on the left is cheaper, but the Monsoon one on the right has pretty trim and looks maybe a bit more formal.
    Any thoughts?! Thanks all!!

The right one I prefer.  Do you really think they’ll need it in June? We had a belter of a summer this year!

If I buy them then we definitely won't need them  :D

I ordered both kinds but I like the one on the right too...
  • Another few weeks of not much. Trying to poke the fiancé to help draft the info card so we can get things printed, but not getting much traction at the mo. Sigh.

On the upside, my ring’s done!
Absolutely love it, and fits round my engagement ring perfectly. I tried it on when I picked it up and didn’t want to take it off!

I also asked a friend to read, and she said yes, so I guess that’s another little thing off the list.
We need to think about cake soonish...

Love your dress and ring x
  • Shrug decision has been reached... we're going for the ones on the left. I'm not as twiggy as the models (is anyone?!), so it looked much better on. Job done.

Finally also managed to get the fiance to look at the info card, although we haven't yet settled on any "we don't want presents but here's the link to our honeymoon fund" wording! I'm poking him RIGHT NOW as I want to get them proofed this week and printed early January. He's a bit distracted by Liverpool v Man U though. Sigh.

So getting the invites proofed before Christmas didn't happen, and then we went to Australia (to a wedding...) for 2 and a half weeks so zero progress has been made.
This is absolutely amazing and terrifying at the same time. I need to book my first fitting but am a little on the chubster side after Christmas plus holiday so won't be rushing to get it done next week... I'm not planning on losing any significant amount of weight, but I do want to get back to my normal before getting too much done to the dress.
I guess this means I can also get hold of my veil (it's just a stock one) so I can start sorting out my hair. My hairdresser texted while I was away, but I wasn't paying international call rates to talk about wedding hair, so I need to rink her in the next few days.

Hopefully invites within this week then.
