Love the pics with your dad!! That moment is definitely one you'll both remember forever, you can see how proud he is from his face!! That's one of the things I'm looking forward to, seeing my dads face!
the one where you're adjusting your dads buttonhole is Amazing!! Xxx
Aww the pics with your dad are fab!!!
So got tears in my eyes too lol
Loving your thread xx
I always well up when i see your dad pics . I love your wedding , it looks amazing and you know how gorgeous i think your dress is x
Ah guys I love coming back to all these nice comments
I love the photos of me and my daddy and I'm so glad we had the time to chill out and get all the photos we wanted before leaving!
I'm very well known for flicking the v's in pretty much every photo so it's funny I have a classy family who do it too
Well I think it's enough about me and it's time for a couple of photos of my husband getting ready . . .
So whilst I was at our hotel getting ready, MrH was at the hotel where most of our friends were staying getting ready with the best men. . .
Holding the personalised pocketwatch I bought him as a wedding day gift which he loved
With the boys . . .
With the girls . . .
A quick background on Lindos. As it's a word heritage site no vechicles are allowed in the village itself so the taxi's drop you off in the main square and it was a 10 minute walk (uphill!) to our chapel.
I really like this photo as I think when I got out of the taxi and saw people staring and taking photos the nerves really kicked in. I remember one of the bridesmaids telling me to watch out for the donkey poo and she said I just had this glazed look on my face and told her that was fine haha
We decided to hire a violinist to escort us up to the chapel as I love the violin and he came highly recommended. He played the greek wedding march through the village and then switched to the tradition wedding march at the chapel (more on that later!)
Even though I get social anxiety and the thought of walking through a busy village in my wedding dress made me feel abit sick, I'm glad we had the violinist. Even though it probably attracted more attention it made me feel calmer for some reason. We also met our coordinator who walked up with us.
As we walked through the village, the locals came out of their shops and restaurants to clap and congratulate us and plenty of tourists cheered and wished us well too!
This was outside our reception venue Melenos which you walk past to get to the chapel. Even though I had seen the venue a few days before and endless photos I think you can see by my face how wowed I am that it was our venue!
We stopped at the bottom of the chapel steps, there were trees hiding us from the guests and vice versa so we were very kindly given a moment to have a quick drink (non alcoholic I promise!!) and compose ourselves!!
I was nervous about the steps as they are quite rocky and I of course wore big heels that made it harder to walk in so it was a tricky balance to hold onto my dress, bouquet and my dad but I somehow did it - can't even remember!! The bridesmaids went first as I much prefer that order and my mum I think went first - hazy bride memory now!
With greek tradition all of the wedding party must face the chapel doors and not turn to look at the bride as she walks down the aisle (not sure why!)
I love this sneaky photo my photographer got of one of the best men
I still remember hearing everyone above at the chapel chatting away and the hush when the violinist switched to playing the traditional wedding march. I think that's when it finally hit me that this was it, I was getting married! As I walked up the steps I could just see a sea of guests and just kept concentrating on the steps! I was worried that I was frowning as I often do when I'm thinking or concentrating but luckily guests said I was beaming!
Rob waiting for me - love this photo
This is just a gorgeous photo of my MIL and her partner
The best men and MrH waiting (p.s how gorgeous is our little chapel, I think it was built in the 16th Century!)
I love this so much.
As I said before the wedding party has to face the chapel doors which also included me and the bridesmaids etc. As I walked the short walk down the aisle I stood next to Rob and gave him a cheeky hello and hand squeeze and then we were all asked to turn around together to face the mayor who was conducting the ceremony.
In Greece a civil ceremony is about 5 mins long! You start by the mayor asking if you taking each to be your wife/husband etc etc and you say 'I do' and you exchange the rings. Then he says the vows in greek and english and then pronounces you man and wife! Needless to say the ceremony flew by!
These are the greek civil ceremony vows
GREEK CIVIL WEDDING VOWS
On Behalf of the Vice Mayor, Mr. _____________, I wish to welcome you and thank you all for your presence in Lindos.
The ceremony starts now.
We have all gathered here today, at this respectable and highly valued place, to celebrate the union of two loving people.
We are here to unite _________________ and _________________ in marriage and to celebrate with them this very important moment.
Do you _____________ take ______________ to be your lawful wedded wife,to love respect and honour her throughout your years together?
Do you _____________ take ______________ to be your lawful wedded husband, to love respect and honour him
throughout your years together? (You will then be asked to Exchange your Wedding Rings)
Ι will continue in Greek
(The reading will then take place in Greek followed by the English reading)
From this moment on, you are united of your own freewill as man and wife. It is your duty, to love honour and be faithful to each other for as long as you live.
As man and wife, you have a common destiny. As equal partners, you will face together whatever married life and life in general may bring your way. Together, you will have to bear the responsibilities of married life and of bringing up the family you will create. And finally , you both have a joined duty and the right to ensure the welfare and
up –bringing of your children, so they will grow up as free persons and good responsible members of society. From this moment on, you are joined together for as long as you live.
I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. Congratulations!!
One of my biggest worries about having a civil ceremony is I'm used to religious vows (I'm catholic) so felt the UK civil ceremony vows just weren't for me (no offence meant!!!). I love how the greek vows are family orientated (obv you can change them if you're not having kids) and I love the wording about being equal etc.
You can add readings to 'bulk' up the ceremony if you want to but we just wanted to get on with it! We very nearly went with this reading but put it in our order of service instead.
The Beauty of Love
The question is asked: “Is there anything more beautiful in life than a young couple clasping hands and pure hearts in the path of marriage? Can there be anything more beautiful than young love?” And the answer is given: “Yes, there is a more beautiful thing.
"It is the spectacle of an old man and an old woman finishing their journey together on that path. Their hands are gnarled but still clasped; their faces are seamed but still radiant; their hearts are physically bowed and tired but still strong with love and devotion. Yes, there is a more beautiful thing than young love. Old love.”
We picked this as a little nod to our grandparents that are no longer with us as they had happy and long lasting marriages that we hope to have too!
So that's it we're married! We chose our mums to be our witnesses and I had to sign the register in my married name - cue awful non practised signature!
Here are some photos of people crying or being happy haha
My bridesmaid and husband are also best friends and go way back so I love this photo even though she hates it!
MrH's favourite photo of the best men
One of my gorgeous friends with her boyfriend
Aww it's get more beautiful everytime I read it Mrs H!The ceremony looks lovely. Can you change the fact that everyone looks towards the doors rather than you working towards them? Or is this the rules?
Can't wait to read more xx
Thank you! Umm I'm not sure to be honest! I was happy with it like that anyway x
Great photos! I love the feel of them, very romantic.
Ah what a lovely ceremony! The words really are beautiful, and I love the poem you put in your order of service.
More please!! Xx
Seriously I think I would turn a neon shade of green if I envied your wedding any more!!
I just love it!! its too cool!! It just represents you guys as a couple and you can tell its so personal. It's lovely and intimate with that laid back feel, but you can just see the emotion from everyone!
Think that reading needs to make its way into my wedding somehow!! It made me cry!! Totally reminds me of my nana and grandad who we're married for 56 years until my grandad passed away. Come to think of it all our grandparents had super long marriages!! lets hope it runs in the family! xx
Glad you're all enjoying it still, it's been fun reminicising haha
Pahahaha MondayBride you make me laugh! From your planning thread I know your wedding is going to be amazing!
Yeah our guests were amazing! Everyone just made a massive effort and loved being there - I think it brought us all even closer!
It was the first reading I ever saw and just cry every time I get to the end, I love the thought of old people still holding hands and being in love, I hope that'l be me and MrH one day! xx
After the ceremony we stayed and posed for a few photos at the chapel before it got too hot!
Family shot - think it meant alot to MrH to have his mum and dad together on the day as they haven't seen each other since they divorced.
my gorgeous bridesmaids!
Me just casually hanging out with the best men
I hope it is!!
just liked your Facebook page!! I love the gold glitter bunting!! we're thinking about having a cheesecake as well as our wedding cake and that would look great on top!!
me and Mr Monday always talk about when we're old, and when see an elderly couple we're alays like so cute we hope we're like that!! I just love it!! Xx
I am such a dead romantic i cant wait for my knight in shining armour to come riding in and whisk me away. Plus im sick of being an independent woman lol and want to be a kept woman
its nice to have a wedding planner i do agree they make thing lots easier and my friend (looks like all my friends are getting married but me) well she got one who tookall the stress from her so make sure they are good.
you can also do it yourself if you know to. maybe do a short wedding planning course. I know my cousin opt for that alternative because it was cheaper. mind you she is a i can do it all myself kind of girls but i hope these sites help. they do some great courses:
GRRRRRR I'm still not getting notifications - YAYW sort it out!!!
Ah thanks for the like on facebook blown away by all the support so far! Just send me a message if you'd like some, I'm doing some on an actual cake topper for a customer at the mo but I'm going to sell it separately too and I think it looks gorgeous on it's own!
Aw it's so cute thinking about growing old with the man you love
oh double GRRR looks like I've been spammed!!! x
After the ceremony and photos we headed down the steps where half way we have installed a cooling station. I'm so annoyed that I didn't get any pics of this but we had homemade lemonade with stripy straws and cold towels with jo malone blossom oil on them which was so refreshing in the heat!
Also as we walked down I spotted some extra guests at the bottom -
I think you can guess from my excited face who they were . . .
BOBIS AND PEPIS!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at their little sashes and flowers - they were adorable but very naughty!
We were abit shy at first and just posed next to them but next thing I know the handler is asking my photographer to hold them whilst he pretty much throws me AND MrH on the donkeys haha! Then naughty bobis tried to eat my bouquet! Cheeky!
Oh MrsH I've given up with the notifications now! They're a waste of time! I just try and check the followed threads but I follow that many I can't keep up!!! It's my own nosy fault!! Lol
im going to try to make some bunting from some glittery backed sheets that I got for another project but haven't used! But if its a disaster I will definitely call upon your services!!
Love the donkeys, bet that cooling station was a god sent! Gutted you didn't get pics tho, that's what worriers me you know, I need people running around getting pics of all the little things!! Xx
Me too! This forum is the pits but I feel like I need to finish my report now I've started!
Ah that's a good idea! I've been using soft touch card for the bunting but I found some glittery backed sheets in the works the other day so I might make some cupcake flags with them! I love glitter!!!
Yeah my photographer was perfect but I think he needed to be else where to capture more important photos and to be honest it was a god send but the planners set it up and it's maybe not how I would of done it so I'm not too bothered! The guests loved it though!
After we hung out for Bobis and Pepis we went to our reception venue Melenos which was right next store for our welcome drinks. We had them on the balcony and wow the view!!!
Us with the stripy straws I bought over and the 'cheers' and 'hooray' flags I made! We had Pimms as I find champagne gives me a headache and at least Pimms is more refreshing
This is a guest photo but it shows the view off the best!! Even though by now it was 6pm it was SO hot still but there was an area inside where people could sit and chat so it was really relaxed.
After a quick drink and mingle (and a touch up of make up and deodrant!) Me and MrH left with our photographer to have some photos taken round the village . . .
I'm so glad we went away to have some photos as it meant we could have a catch up and talk about the day and recover a little bit from all the madness of getting married!
We didn't need to go far as there were so many beautiful places around our venue . . .
Can you tell my photographer works on product fashion shoots?!
Just hanging out with my shoes looking really deep and meaningful
MrH looking dapper
I like how this looks like it's capturing a special moment but really it's just me looking at people on some pedalos haha
You have stunning photos! Everyone looks so happy! Xxx
A couple more -
This was the walk we had to do up to the chapel - no wonder my shoes broke! I like you get a flash of my cheeky vans!
Everytime we've shown someone this picture the oldies have always said 'oh no he's accidently cut your heads off!' and the young 'uns 'wow this could be an album cover!' The latter got us thinking and gave us an idea for thank you cards which I'll talk about later
We only spent about 1/2 hour having photos taken but one of my bridesmaid came out to us as we were chilling outside and said she was worried so we thought maybe it was time to head back in!
Me being ladylike and putting my shoes back on whilst sitting on the floor!
Our planners recommended everyone going into the garden where we were eating, find their seats and then for us to enter so we had to sat and chat for abit whilst they did that!
Once they were seated, one of the best men introduced us and we came down the stairs - I was hoping to have a rockstar moment where fans would be cheering and clapping but actually it's abit weird but we did get a clap - ha!
Thanks Poppins! I think we all were ( I was anyway!) it was just such a fun and relaxing day and a great atmosphere so he really captured that xx
