Laid back May wedding report

So we got married just over a week ago.. and it was the best day of my life! We don't have any of the professional pictures yet but we've got lots of family pictures :)

I don't quite know how to start or what to include so I thought I'd do it all :) partly for me to have a record of the day.

Ooo yayyy! Congratulations! Most other reports I have read have just started the week or so before the wedding and then go in chronological order! Lots of pics please!!

I took the week off of the wedding, partly to rest and partly to DIY!

The Friday before the wedding I got my nails done at 10am and then dashed off to the venue to drop the bunting off. Then I drove to Leeds, to fill the car up with stuff and went back to the venue, unfortunately there had been an awful car accident near the venue and it took me 2 hours to do a 20 minute journey. I got out to help until the ambulance arrived but then they took over and I finally got the the venue. J had rung me so many times on the way over and I obviously hadn't answered many of them so by the time I got there he was so angry as theyd essentially set up everything. I did feel awful but after I explained he calmed down.

the caterer had been asking Jon to make decisions without me and then decided that actually we should wait till I got there so he was pretty wound up that no one was listening to him, stressful!

Anyway, we got it all sorted and it all looked beautiful! We then went to the church for the rehearsal and that was amazing :) really helped us both relax (especially when J got my hands mixed up)! Then we went our separate ways! I went home via the venue to drop off a car, and J went out with his family for a meal and drinksimageimageimageimage :) image

imageI got up about 6 ish on Saturday and it didn't feel real!! Got into the shower and was just bumming about in my pjs when my other bridesmaids and mum arrived with croissants and prosecco! It was so relaxed and lovely! The hair dresser came at 7.30 and got cracking with the bridesmaid's hair :) she was so quick! They all looked absolutely beautiful! I got my hair done at about 9 and then just had some more prosecco!

Our dog was the star of the morning with his cute little bow tie! Anyway then it was time for makeup and my maid of honour was literally taking so long to do her makeup I was worried I was going to be late! It was 11.45 (camper coming at 12.30) and I wasn't dressed and didn't have my makeup done! I finally got my makeup done and then the photographer wanted to get off to the church to see Jon arriving but my mum who was going with her was upset she wouldn't see me in my dress and with my dad not being there I made the decision for them to stay and help me get ready/ take some pictures of my mum helping me dress :) it was the right decision!

Then it was time to get into the camper!!

After all the worry about being late, we were actually quite early to the church! My bridesmaid got a call as we pulled up to say we had to go and drive round the block as the bus carrying the guests had got lost!!! Nightmare!!! so we backed Patrick the campervan into a ginnel and stayed there by the church waiting for the bus! They were 25 minutes late!! Thank god J knew they were going to be late as well and didn't think that people were waiting for Me!

They funally turned up and then it started absolutely peeing it down so the ushers had to come out with brolleys and escort them one by one up the steps to the church, the poor ushers were soaked!! Then it was just me! And bless them! The three ushers came back out to help me up the steps, one carrying my train, and the other two holding umbrellas!

I was so nervous about to walk down the aisle, my Grandad decided he wanted to walk me down a few days before the wedding and he was waiting for me inside the church :) I had my Dads tie wrapped around my bouquet as a little way of honouring him, anyway we'd had a little drama with my grandads suit as he just gave me random measurements and didn't go get it fitted bless him, but against all odds it fitted perfectly! Thankgod!

All the bridesmaids went first and then it was my turn! Eek! I was so happy to see him at the end of the aisle and he was crying when I got there! All I remember of walking down the aisle was people smiling at me.

The service was so relaxed and full of upbeat christian songs rather than hymns and the sermon was just beautiful, we had a band playing the songs with drums and an electric guitar :) it was just lovely

I've included some pictures of J at the hotel and in the hobmog

So then it was off to venue!! It was so nice to have some time together and it was also odd seeing him with a ring on his finger! I kept thinking 'oh wow he's married.. Omg it's to me!!!' We actually got to the venue first! the bus got lost.. Again!! So we had some pictures of us two on our own and with the camper and hobmog, then the bus turned up so we had some pictures with that too and with our family :) it was so good. It was just a beautiful day!

I got them from house of Fraser and aspire style, they're from little mistress and they all said how comfy they were! They are usually £70 each but we got a few in the sale at £30 :) well worth it!!

I forgot to say after we had the ceremony and the vicar pronounced us man and wife,we leant in to kiss and for the first time in 4 years my hair got stuck on his glasses! In front of te church we were stuck haha! So I had to take his glasses off and untangle them and then give them back, everyone was laughing including us and we ended it with a high five... So much for kissing the bride!!!!

  • Fab pics. Loved your day and themes.

Where is the venue? I'm desperate to get something planned for us. This is exavtly what we're looking for but I think out of our budget? Xxx

The venue is east Keswick village hall. It cost £1000 for the werkend and then we chose to drape it for £1500 :)

  • Ahhh it's gorgeous!! It's a bit far out for us though xxx

Ah no way!! Apologies haha! I hope you have an  amazing day! I think we won because we made it clear it was a beer festival themed wedding. They're thinking of doing it again anyway! So re enter!

During the photos and throygh the meal we had a three piece string group with a violin, a double bass and a piano playing. Oh my gosh this was literally the nicest thing ever! They were just so good! And they took requests! I think the photographer got a picture of them, unfortunately  I don't think any of our guests took a picture :(

the food was absolutely to die for! The caterer was amazing, we had red Pepper and tomato soup, roast beef which was more like steak, all the trimmings and then a trio of puddings :) baileys creme brûlée, lemon tarte and chocolate brownie :)

because canapes were so expensive we opened the sweet cart up early so people had pimms and sweets during the photos!

Loving your report, Sparkystar! I am so delighted that you decided to do one!

Everything looks so nice! I love your BMs dresses - I can't believe what a good deal you got on them!! The marquee looks amazing as well, and what another good deal (compared to what I've been quoted!)

I love the photo of you wearing your OH's tophat, and of course, adore your dog. He is so sweet!

    Do share more!

Oh blimey! H2b will be looking for the competition when it opens again. Lol. We are getting married March 2018, feels like a million years away at times! I'm writing Save the Date envelopes tonight for the day guests.

    Love the photos. x

So after the meal we had the speeches and they were just amazing! I really hope I remember what was said/ maybe I'll ask for a copy of each and frame it as we forgot to have someone record them!

My Mum did a speech and it was absolutely lovely! Plenty of embarrassing stories of me and a really nice toast to my Dad.. First person to make me cry! Then came a bit of a surprise, my Grandad had told me that he definitely didnt want to do a speech but had spent three days before the wedding preparing one :) it was so nice! He talked about how Id asked him to give me away and how that had meant so much to him *sob*

J did an amazing speech and officially made the whole room cry! It was just so nice! Even if we did have a few breaks to wipe tears but it was so heartfelt! Then his bestman did his speech and amazingly there were no cliches! It was a really lovely speech from a completely different angle!

Because of the speeches I'd completely forgotten that we'd arranged for ice cream to come!! They arrived at the same time as the evening guests so that was pretty perfect really! Then J decided we should put the jerseys on we got made, they went down well and were actually really great! It was such a  random but lovely day! I literally had the best time!

When the evening guests arrived we both got so caught up in welcoming people we forgot to do the cake cutting and first dance! My sister in law had to remind us! Oops!

So we cut the cake first.. Omg no one tells you how hard that is!! It's so hard cutting that many layers of cake!!

Then the first dance... Right so I'm going to be incredibly upfront and honest here.. It was awful! The most embarrassing thing ever! Neither of us can dance.. At all! So we just revolved in a circle slowly for what felt like hours with Jon standing on my dress more times than I care to remember! I ended the first dance prematurely by asking people to join in, that eased the pressure a bit! I would recommend a little mention by the dj that the bride and groom would like people to join them after a few a minutes!

The next dance was really good though we all did the time warp! It got everyone on the dance floor!
